What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Peter Gabriel - So

24 Bit download from B&W web site.

This is by far the best version I have heard of this album. Highly recommended for anybody into the streaming side of things.

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells

24 Bit download from B&W site

I know this album very well, had various different copies of it over the years on LP,CD but this version is a must get....This and the Peter Gabriel above are 2 of the best adverts for the whole 24 Bit streaming thing. Both are £15 each.

Wow. This is some powerful never-a-dull-moment 1st movement. Finally a real "Maestoso" like you mean it.

These guys are working great together.

Schumann: piano concerto / Mozart: concerto #9 / Sophie Pacini (2012)

Cheers,

EJ, I'll see your 9 and raise it to 21.... Actually, I have the Sophie Pacini disc in one of my Wishlists that has just grown too large at the moment.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:  Mitsuko Uchida (Piano & Direction), Cleveland Orchestra

Concerto for Piano no 9 in E flat major, K 271 "Jeunehomme"

Concerto for Piano no 21 in C major, K 467

Ludwig van Beethoven: Javier Perianes (Piano)

Sonata for Piano no 27 in E minor, Op. 90

Sonata for Piano no 22 in F major, Op. 54

Sonata for Piano no 17 in D minor, Op. 31 no 2 "Tempest"

Sonata for Piano no 12 in A flat major, Op. 26 "Funeral March"

I have been working on the Tempest sonata lately and so any recording with this d minor sonata on it just becomes a giant magnet to me.  My first recording of Javier Perianes and not my last.  First on the list will be his Schubert and Mompou followed by the more obscure or enigmatic De Falla and De Nebra (all for the sake of interest.)

Both on Vinyl.

Doug

may I suggest a different order?

Blasco de Nebra, Mompou, de Falla, Schubert

Blasco de Nebra and then Mompou are the most often played CD's in my household.

I can recommend them wholehartedly.
