What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.
Anyway, links:

Inspired by Graham's post. Only have this album from his catalog, but I really like it.

Try this one, also on Delmark.

Hi patk: I can also recommend the So Many Roads album.
Graham.
Blue Horizon Vinyl.
This is also a good 'un. Sorry about the pun. Expensive 2nd hand and I don't know if it has been reissued or if it's available on CD.

So you're lucky enough to have two copies Steve
When I first posted it didn't come up. As it happens I do have 2 copies.

Pop/Rock by one of the many GOOD young bands I've discovered this year.
Ludwig van Beethoven: Javier Perianes (Piano)
Sonata for Piano no 27 in E minor, Op. 90
Sonata for Piano no 22 in F major, Op. 54
Sonata for Piano no 17 in D minor, Op. 31 no 2 "Tempest"
Sonata for Piano no 12 in A flat major, Op. 26 "Funeral March"
I have been working on the Tempest sonata lately and so any recording with this d minor sonata on it just becomes a giant magnet to me. My first recording of Javier Perianes and not my last. First on the list will be his Schubert and Mompou followed by the more obscure or enigmatic De Falla and De Nebra (all for the sake of interest.)
Doug
may I suggest a different order?
Blasco de Nebra, Mompou, de Falla, Schubert
Blasco de Nebra and then Mompou are the most often played CD's in my household.
I can recommend them wholehartedly.

aleg
Aleg, I will change the order now! Left to my own devices, my comfort zone always defaults to most familiar down to least familiar. Your suggestion will help change this and so I am looking forward to the Blasco de Nebra now first instead of down the road somewhere.
Thanks,
Doug
On vinyl,
I haven't played it for a long, long time but after playing some reggae then Jeff Beck I thought Superstition and went for Stevie rather than Beck, Bogert and Appice.

EJ, I'll see your 9 and raise it to 21.... Actually, I have the Sophie Pacini disc in one of my Wishlists that has just grown too large at the moment.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Mitsuko Uchida (Piano & Direction), Cleveland Orchestra
Concerto for Piano no 9 in E flat major, K 271 "Jeunehomme"
Concerto for Piano no 21 in C major, K 467
Hi Doug. There is something about Pacini's Schumann that makes me return to it often but her Mozart is, as of yet, underwhelming. The Uchida is vastly superior IMO. At the moment I'm listening to her earlier recording of #21:
Mozart / piano concertos #20 & #21 / Uchida, Tate (1985; original issue)
Cheers,
EJ
2nd disc
On vinyl.
Alice Coltrane (Johns wife). Deep, soulful cosmic grooves.
Because i had a mind bendingly great time with a certain lady to it this week and i'm reliving.
Goerne Schubert Edition #2: An mein Herz (2008)
Cheers,
EJ

Simply outstanding.
Not very easy to get it - but really 'Highly recommended'
Especially for Naims, of course.
CD from the Mono Box set. Haven't heard the stereo versions, but the mono albums are very well done.

In honour of his win at the CMA awards for the album of the year.
