What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Martha Tilston's stunning new studio album 'Machines of Love and Grace' explores her philosophy of life, her relationships and politics like few singer/songwriters working today. Martha Tilston is a captivating performer, an enchanting singer-songwriter blessed with a gloriously clear and seductively beautiful voice.

+1. Surprisingly good, quiet pressing. Agreed with Stu -- this is a brilliant album.

Hook,

I have been giving it a bit of a rest over the last week and put it in its new home in my record rack.

If i had left it on the floor in front of the rack? It would be played to death its so good.

Jonathan Wilson 'Gentle Spirit' on CD.

CS&N, Neil Young, Country Joe & The Fish, even Pink Floyd, they're all in here some where.

Not an artist I'm familiar with but I gave this a quick listen last night on Spotify and thought it worth further investigation.

Neil Halstead - Palindrome Hunches

Why? Because I follow the two labels under which this guy has recorded (4AD & Bushfire) and thought I should check him out.

Music Matters 45rpm. ' A Blowin' Session' with Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley and John Coltrane. Fast paced jazz at it's best.

Stu,

Thanks for the info

Regular forum members will know that I am a massive jazz fan and I grade this album as my all time favorite.

i recently sold off my LP12 and all my LPs, except this one. Even though I have embraced streaming, if I ever did decide to get back into vinyl, I would start with this truly wonderful album, hence why I kept it.

Hi Karl, it's good to see you posting again. As part of kuma's ongoing review of all things Beethoven #1, I was reminded of SK's relatively unknown Australian cycle. With second hand prices between GBP 0.01 and 3.50, I took a punt and they don't disappoint. Kovacevich himself is (much) more assertive and accomplished than he was for the earlier cycle, but in other respect the Philips cycle remains the better one.

Cheers,

For whatever reason I've always listened to Leftfield's Greatest Hit album which seems to run out of steam half way through (a not uncommon failing of such an album IMO!). Discovering Letfism in my son's collection has been wonderful, it's the sort of album you can leave on repeat and it just gets better with each playing!

Looking forward to the Black gold version!

Gordon.

I have every Fink album.

This live one i could live with as a desert island disc along with my one Jimmy Hendrix/Bob Dylan cover song.

Its now in my top three albums of this year list.
