What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Some 70's vintage jazz...

Listening to Annie Fischer's No.20 again.

It is so enjoyable this record is now my reference for the No.20. I adore her playing and love the different cadenza, too.

From the new vinyl box-set : )

This sounds hugely better than my nasty old 1989 digital remastered LP.

A very good manufacturing effort imho, although i must say it does sound digital, in a classy sort of way, so still very good and musical all the same. Won’t be playing them ‘89 version vinyls ever again that’s for sure, but these newer remasters are full of life and delightfully playful. Going to enjoy going though the fab four album back catalogue, many of which is a first time experience for me.

Glad you are enjoying it, Debs!  You should be in for a real treat with those first-timers.  They (the lesser known songs) are the real treasures and what the passion for the Beatles music is all about.

Deb,

I've got the same nasty UK digital reissues. Sounds like they are worth 20 bucks at least.

Still, I am miffed they didn't bother to cut a laquer with a 24/96 master.

Cerys on Radio 6. Eclectic music from blues to beats with live sessions. This is a very good show. Cerys has just played 'Driftin Back' from Psychedellic Pill.

Concerto for Oboe d'Amore in A major, BWV 1055

In northern regions where darkness takes over at this time of year, many suffer from SAD.  For a relatively small amount of money one can use Blue Light Therapy to help counteract or fool the body into experiencing the effects of more sunlight and this helps improve your mood and energy level.  I, on the other hand, recommend music, year round, to receive that charge and a multitude of untold benefits.

There is only one side affect to getting joy in life and increased energy through music and it leads to constantly rising debt and living like a pauper.  Ah, but there is another cure, it seems to me.  If only a wealthy person needed a wonderful son and would be prepared to adopt me...

Umm, OK, I get it.  Now where did I leave my Blue Light?

Debs

Hi Debs.

Totally agree regarding the difference between the 89 remaster of Rubber Soul and the copy in the vinyl box set IMO it is night & day. Also before my box came last week played both my original copy's of Sgt Pepper & Let it Be again the copy's in the box set of both these albums win hands down IMO . All in all I am  delighted with the quality of the sound, pressings & overall standard of the album art work, box and book. I hope you are enjoying it, as much as me.

Regards Graham

Another nice sunny early winter day.

I love the Böms/Vinna Phil and Backhaus playing with his usual drama particularly the slow bits have the most impact.
Starting to like this tune, even.
