What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Doug,

When is his next album due?

And yes it would be nice if DG released it in vinyl. I was pleasantly surprised that the sound quality of this Wunder disc  is actually better than records DG used to put out in the mid to late 70s. ( can't say the same for Dudamel vinyl, tho )

Kuma, next album is due in early January 2013.

Really enjoying this.  Would probably have missed it completely without this forum...

Highly recommended... I never listened to Steely Dan before... This is true magic.

The bodacious cowboy sounding glorious on this spangled leather poncho of a cover album. An essential Steely Dan album for any of their fans.

Haim,

When a asked a friend who recently got an iPhone where her purse was, she turned to her new shiny iPhone and said 'I don't know. I Google it'.

No lie.

Now, spinning Pet Shop Boys.

Hi Yip,

Fire in the Hole was recommended by myself in the Women vocals thread. It was originally brought to the attention of the Forum on 21 Oct 2006 by Gunnar Jannson (below), to whom I & others have been eternally grateful.

My appreciation of songwriting wit & intelligence was sealed from the time I bought Steely Dan's debut LP Can't Buy A Thrill in 1972. I hope it has the same effect on you in 2012.

Remaster on CD.  Commendable, this is a very well-done remaster.  All around sound is sharp, crisp, and biting, without a hint of listener fatigue.  Drums are punchy and the band sounds very tight.  Exceptional for this genre.  Easy to understand why the original vinyl sold so well.  Wish I’d have bought it back in the day.

The first opera I bought back in '86.

Did Mozart ever write a bad tune?

Did he ever write a better tune? (Maybe Don Giovanni, depends on mood)

Cheers,

Vinyl.

It has a little Woolworths sticker just inside the sleeve dated 5th Dec 1981. I can't remember if i bought this with paper round money or was given it for Christmas......i was only 13 back then .

Just given it a spin on the Moth and it's come up nice and shiny... not a mark on it.
