What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

The Karajan Ring cycle followed hot on the heels of the Decca Ring cycle with Georg Solti. As usual with Karajan, the recordings were made in connection with the rehearsals for live productions. The orchestral contribution is stellar, and the recorded quality easily rivals the Decca and exceeds it in terms of realism. The singers are, on the whole, superb and more beautiful if generally a bit smaller voiced than their counterparts for Solti and Böhm - a minor additional 'issue' is that Karajan chose or had to choose different singers in some of the lead parts: there are two Wotans, two Siegfrieds and two Brünnhildes.

Cheers,

EJ

First play and I'm as stunned as I was seeing the Philip Glass Ensemble @ Union Chapel last Saturday. The standout tracks have been - Sense Of Doubt; V2 Schneider; Subterraneans & Warszawa. I bought another 3 PG CD's and I know I will be buying many more.

My original vinyl is one of my favourite recordings and reproductions I have. CD is not quite as good. Quality in the production.

I wonder how many times this album appears on this post? One of 10CC's best

Two-Part Inventions

Florestan,

Home at last eh?

This sounds very nice and hardly any distortions in upper register voices but after Gloria, slowly losing the steam. There is no poignant ending on this set.
