What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I've never been greatly taken with Mr Cohen's voice but this album, from 'The Complete Studio Albums Collection" wot I recently bought, is excellent and the sound quality's exceptionally good.

New on Naim Jazz and being spinning this all week. I like it and good to see Neil Cowley getting a lot of good reviews and some relative "jazz" success.

New album from Portico Quartet and an interesting step forward. I was not a big fan of their first two albums with the sound of the Hang Drum, but this is different. With Nick Mulvey leaving the band the mix has changed considerably and the Hang Drum is just there in the background now. Electronic beats are much more to the forefront and I find the overall result much more interesting. Not really jazz although it will still get that categorisation.

Is it just me who thinks that just about all Naim album covers are shockingly bad?! Makes no sense.

Vinyl, newly purchased from Horsham market, the vinyl man has returned:-

This is one of his "restored" albums.

Quote, "they've been cleaned, scrubbed, sandpapered and brillopadded so they should be fine"

Flat, clean and quiet is what this one is.

Spoke too soon not so quiet, still flat though.
