What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Where did you get the LP? The listings of it I see online don't mention the CD. Would love to get both.

Really good.  Flashes of brilliance with only a couple of tracks that perhaps need more time.  One for the next party...

Seeking some aural sunshine for the minus temps outside, you can smell the souk

Solti's recording of Wagner's Tannhäuser, with René Kollo really good as the titular (anti) hero who is struggling to choose between the woman with the body and the woman with the mind. Metaphorically speaking.

Stu,

first, apologies it's on DCC - I always confuse DCC and AF.  Is it any good?  Well, unless you're a die hard Genesis fan, I'd say skip it.  But if you are a fan then it's a fascinating insight into where the band would go over the next few years.  No pun intended, but the main revelation with the DCC issue is the sound - waay better than anything released before.  And has there ever been more diverse releases than with this album??  Heaven knows how many copy masters and copy of copy masters were doing the rounds.  However, it sounds like DCC may have managed to locate something first gen (or very close) and it sounds surprisingly fresh.

Inspired by BBC Music Magazine's article on the importance of Debussy's musical creations

I am a die hard for my sins.

I thought you had made a mistake /DCC and AF?

I dont like the remasters/box sets of a few years ago.

Adrian/Lontano is what i call a die hard  Genesis fan though.

He flew all the way from Aus just to see them play live a few  years ago and then flew back after the gig.

Four days in the sky just for a three hour concert.

That is a die hard IMO.

I got the LP from Amazon. There was no indication that it came with the CD so that was a nice surprise.

I flew in from Sydney for TWO concerts, so 6 hours  Manchester and Twickenham and then I went straight back down under :-) Not much different from business trips with short meetings except on my tab I flew economy

This vinyl is so thin you can almost se through it. Surprisingly though,

it is flat and silent so what the heck.

P.S. Although I listen to this set very regularly (and it's a long sit at over three hours), the immediacy and the quality of the sound never fail to amaze me. The recording is not entirely natural (it followed Culshaw's Theatre of the Mind principle, although less enthusiastically than the Solti Ring) but the sheer sound is as awesome as the performance.
