What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Kate Walsh "The Real Thing"

Since being introduced to this album by Michael at l'Audiodistribution some years back, it gets played fairly regularly.  Modern progressive, very much in the style of Porcupine Tree et al. If you like PT and don't have any Archive then buy this album - now.

I was in Rough Trade East earlier today and ended up buying another copy of the new Portico Quartet album so that I could get the Rough Trade "exclusive" 5 track EP that they are selling with the album. It's very good and from the same sessions as the actual album.

Bottin - Horror Disco. Avant Garde with some nice touches of retro kitsch thrown in. Brilliant.
