What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Johnny would have loved this.

CD 1 First listen.

Never been keen on tributes but this one seemed appropriate and, as Stu - the wise one-  pointed out, some hidden gems.

Pity it's not available on vinyl, yet.

Cheers, Stu.

One of the best Philip Glass albums - such lovely tuneful and atmospheric music. Class.

Lontano, I'll look up the Wesseltoft and report back (thanks)

Now, another fine Norwegian musical export. Just got to 10.9 and the room is taking off..

Have you heard anything about these guys getting together for another album?

No I haven't. They did a concert with John Paul Jones of Led Zep fame last year. I am going to try 10.9 now as it does shake the house.

Fair assessment.

But this is some of the best jazz of the last 20 years.

I vaguely remember Channel 4 playing this twelve soon after they started showing the Tour (LeMond vs Hinault) but I've only just seen this brilliant clip of the men-machine themselves in action:
