What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Quite a lot. Enjoy your exploration of ECM and jazz. It is a very varied field. I am more of a fan of the European scene which is a large part of the ECM output.

Try E.S.T on the ACTlabel. Albums such as Seven Days of Falling are fabulous? This is a good thread to help your exploration.

This weeks Rush choice is:-

Posted on: 08 February 2012 by EJS

Rare sonatas for horn and piano, in this case fortepiano. The music hobbles pleasantly along and sits firmly at the easy listening side of the classical spectrum. In the Krufft (who?) sonata, it's hard not to notice how simplistic the writing for fortepiano is, but Scott's horn sounds so gorgeous and varied in tone, it's easy to overlook this speck - and the work overall is pretty good, with a sensitive middle movement which both ladies clearly relish. It's Scott's exceptional horn playing that makes this disc something really special.

Cheers,

EJ

A regular play - so many strong tracks, moody and dark to my liking.

Don't get on with the 'arty' first and last tracks - but everything in-between is superb.

Excellnt guitar and composition.

Oh! Left that one off the list, but there are too many great jazz albums, glad you're enjoying them.  Jaco Pastorius, the bass player for Weather Report has some amazing solo works. Worth checking out Wayne Shorter's early releases JuJu and Night Dreamer. fun thing about jazz is that its all in the family - if you look at the Bitches Brew personnel, part of that band + Jaco became Weather Report.
