if you look at the Bitches Brew personnel, part of that band + Jaco became Weather Report.
...and sounded better for it IMO.
....and now new to me artiste, on CD:-

Wand's Unvollendete, his final Bruckner recordings with the Berliner Philharmoniker finally issued in one box. Günter Wand got around to only recording half of the symphonies before he passed away, but fortunately these widely count as the better half (not that there's a single dud in Bruckner's symphonic output). Listening to the mighty Eighth first, like the others taken live from a couple of concerts (2001) and recorded with immense presence, weight and clarity. Even during the loudest passages, there is no hint of dryness or congestion although bass extension suffers at the absolute loudest moments. Which are very loud, my 802s are loving this.
Cheers,
EJ

Doug, what's your view on the sound of EMI's transfers? The Naxos discs got good press with supposedly markedly superior sound quality.

Work was frustrating to day (although OK ish by the end) so tonight I'm listening to this (on vinyl) and track 3 The very thing that makes you rich.....and in the instrumental middle Ry is picking away with Dave Lindley sliding above when pow Tim Drummond and Jim Keltner put the beat down and Lindley just went away. Awesome. Frustrations over

Ordered this a couple of days ago after various posts on this thread. Its the fourth Porcupine Tree acquisition in a week. Now I need to find the time to listen to them all.
Can I blame this thread for turning me into a bankrupt?

Aldo Ciccolini: Scarlatti Sonatas
It's more academic sounding than what I am used to ( Horowitz ) but he's a decent piano player. ( his Ravel work is great together with Martinon )

To be honest, I am not exactly thrilled about the sound on this EMI set. I am not sure if I have ever seen the Naxos version around? I'd be interested to compare the two now...

There's a view held on other fora that Naim doesn't do classical - clearly not the case from this thread
