What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Indeed, CD25 in the Decca Sound box set, twinned with the Paukenmesse from St John's in 1969. I have a soft spot for Kings College recordings having spent a few formative years in Cambridge as a child.

Now Stu, this is available with added snap, crackle and pop.

Funny, I never got into "Tarantella" but am keen to hear this. I've also added the Yaron Herman Trio CD to my wish list - thanks for the reminder. Nice 5 star review of the new Andy Shephard in yesterday's garden, so no doubt that will find its way into my basket ere long.

'Miles of Aisles'. Joni and the band are so tight and well captured on this HDCD mastering. G

Hi reubs, Have you heard this yet?

(I just got distracted by pictures of Paris Hilton etc when I googled it, ha.)

I know they've done a remix or two for John Talabot, and like his, their album is excellent. Still waiting for mine to arrive (think the release might have been put back?) though their label put the first disc on SoundCloud a week or so ago: http://drownedinsound.com/news...f-titled-debut-album

It took a few listens to get into, but now I'm loving it.

Fourth play since lunchtime.  Wonderful, very glad I took the plunge of £10 spent in HMV this morning.

Couturier's quartet perfectly captures the spirit and imagery of Tarkovsky's films. Highly recommended.

Adam Cohen - Like a Man.

totally loving this CD - echoes of his Dad's early work in a very, very good way. A well constructed and, at times amusing observation of love and maleness. G

Warming up for tonight's show at the Komedia in Brighton - superb venue with a  superb sound system and of course wonderful music from solo Hackett and his Genesis days. Also his birthday today, so should be an good occasion. See some of you forum chaps down there :-)

Also on the black stuff.

Not exactly easy listening, but a compelling CD of piano and violin duets.
