What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Hope you are enjoying her new release, Pat.  I think her voice is amazing on this one and my only complaint is the record is too short.  Hope you are doing well.

2x LP on RCA Victor Dynaflex. Music from 1935-44 with Frank Sinatra doing some of the vocals. Found it in a house clearance shop, covered in mold but after a couple of spins on the Moth it now looks nice and shiny.

The CD version is indeed unbearably shrill!  Time for a user friendly Naim A to D converter innit?

This is an incredible CD.  It should defy belief that this performance / recording is so good given the facts.  I saw Jan Lisiecki last year in concert so I already had high expectations.

Born in 1995, Jan Lisiecki is another young performer already so mature and decades beyond what you might hear from someone twice his age.  He was 13 years old when he recorded this F minor and 14 years old for the E minor concerto.

Watch for his upcoming Deutsche Grammophon debut with a pair of Mozart Piano Concerto's.

Got into this through a Linn Boxed set featuring three of Tommy Smith's  Linn Records releases - "Reminiscence", "Misty Morning & No Time" and "Azure".

"Reminiscence" is my favourite

Hi Jeff,

Doing well here, I hope you are also.  I am enjoying this album very much.  I listened to it twice last night.  Thanks for introducing me to her music.

Best regards,

Pat

Hi Florestan

The CD is not the greatest of works from Gastinel, but 'interesting'.
