What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

As long as the vinyl doesn't end up in the oven....

Debs, I mentioned to you in a previous post an outstanding solo viola da gamba recording by Nima Ben David on the MA label. The disc is not in circulation yet (my iTunes still cannot read the tracks) so the only place to get it is from their site.

Any great day with music becomes astounding and unforgettable when you add a daily dose of Anna Vinnitskaya and the incredible G minor Piano Concerto by Prokofiev.  While there are monster technicians out there I prefer the passion and intelligence of Vinnitskaya.  I can never get enough and this can play on repeat from morning to evening.

Even Prokofiev couldn't play this piece.  Go figure.  Doesn't matter, I thank him for having the vision to leave such profound, cathartic music that only speaks to us beyond our capability to understand it at a conscience level.
