ND5 XS -Airport extreme+Hard drive

Hello Everybody

This is my first post. Just received my ND5 XS today. I'm using an airport extreme with a USB Hard drive connected to it. Basically iTunes gets the music from the hard drive connected usb to the airport extreme and it works fine. I connected the ethernet cable from the airport extreme to the ND5 XS and the internet radio works fine. iStream app worked good with iRadio. When I select PC the UPnP of the ND5 XS doesn't see "the server". So I installed Allegro Media Server on my mac and connected the hard drive to the Mac. The ND5XS displayed my music library and it was playing fine. The iStream app was working fine as well. I could not get the n-Serve app to see any server at any time. It just doesn't work.

I would like to be able to leave my hard drive connected to my airport extreme, and get the ND5 XS to connect to my network and get the music from the hard drive connected to the airport extreme. Is that possible?

Thanks for the help.

Frank - as you've found, you need a UPnP server. As you run iTunes, why not pick up an old Mac Mini to use as a headless UPnP server for the ND5XS ?

Thanks for the response James.

I bought the Playback software. It works great now. The only issue with N-Stream is that I can't control the volume. Do I need the remote wire connected from the ND5XS to my SuperNait amp?

I can't get the N-Serve to find the server.

you need a 3.5mm cable connecting between ND5's remote out and Supernait's remote in.

Thanks sang sang. I will get it.

Frank - the n-Serve app won't work. Its designed for use with Naim servers (NS0x / HDX / Unitiserve) so its not a problem with your setup. You just use n-Stream (as you have found)

Playback and Majestic are the best for Mac applications. Quick, good integration with iTunes and work perfectly with n-Stream and the Naim Streamers.

Thanks again James

I'm just getting familiar with all that streaming stuff and starting to understand. Now I wonder if if set up a UPnP server with a PS3 or an Xbox do you think it would see it?

Use the Xbox / PS3 as the streamer ? Any UPnP device should see your Playback UPnP server.

Should the connector be mono or stereo?

Mono, but I believe stereo will work if you use the left channel remote output on the ND5 XS.
