nDAC can't play "Meet Me In London" in FLAC

Posted by: okli on 05 January 2012

Hi,

my nDAC has no problems playing 24/96 FLACs. Now, I've downloaded "Meet Me In London" in 24/192 FLAC and tried to play it from my USB-stick (the same one, which I always use). Unfortunately, the sound was full with clicks?! Converting the album to WAV solves the problem, but my question is why the FLAC files are not played correctly? Are there some limitation with the FLAC files on the nDAC? The manual does not state anything regarding this. I'm not sure if my nDAC is at the latest firmware version, but because FLAC playback is possible in general with the unit I assume that the unit was shiped with the latest FW. There are no problems with WAV files - I've used the 2L highest resolution test files at 24/3xx and they are playing without any issues. I don't have other 24/196 FLACs at the moment to test with them, but I don't think that there is a problem with this particular album / download, because the WAV-converted files are playing without issues. BTW, great album ;-)

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

there was a firmware update released early in 2011 that enabled FLAC playback from a memory stick. However, I thought that the previous firmware did not support any FLAC playback via USB, so not sure if this will help you.

The update can be found on the main website within Manuals/Technical support.

Ok, I found the thread describing problems with 24/192 flac playback as in my case:

the last message on 30. March is "update due soon" - does anyone here knows if the latest fw from the download site fixes this issue? I've downloaded it and saw the installation instructions doc but I couldn't find any release notes?

You need to update to v 4.10.6, which was released after the postings in your link. This should be the one on the website.
