A niggle playing iPod via BMW stereo - can you help?

Posted by: Gavin B on 05 January 2012

Okay, I admit this is fairly unlikely to get a response, but you never know....

Does anyone listen to their iPod via the USB/Aux connection in a BMW?

I've just started to do so, and I'm getting a niggling 'feature'.

Using the recommended y-cable to connect it up allows the details of the track and artist to be displayed on the stereo, but occassionally it gets it wrong - it puts up the wrong details.  Sometimes this leads to the song playing to be cut off early.  I've no indication as to whether there's any pattern to this behaviour.  This morning, after it had finished playing a 'wrong' song, the correct details briefly flashed onto the screen before the next song started (correctly). I'm just playing all the songs on the iPod with no selection, and using the Random setting through the car's interface.

I've had no previous issues like this with the iPod.

I've had a look around various websites, and there seems to be at least one other report of this happening, but no-one coming back with a solution or explanation.

Anyone else experienced this?  Any work arounds?

Yours hopefully

Gavin

No probs with mine - does track selection etc through the BMW interface. If your iPod works fine on it's own, it may be worth a trip back to the BMW gararge - ? a fault with the car interface?

Thanks, David.  This morning I selected a playlist with 350ish songs to play at random, and it's behaved fine.  I'm wondering whether this is the way to get round the problem - put all songs into a playlist and select that to begin with.  Or that there's a limit on the number of songs that it can handle (in a selection) at any time.  Will be spending several hundred miles in the car over the weekend so I'll be able to narrow it down more.  After that, as you suggest, it might need a trip back to the dealer.
