Hey does anybody have any infos about lacie nw space 2, if it works with ND5 xs`?

musicus68,

I was using a Lacie network d2 and whilst it was excellent as a network drive, there was no ability to configure the bundled TwonkyMedia UPnP software.  Simple things like selecting which folder you want Twonky to share can't be setup which made it really unuasable.  I'm now using a QNAP which is great for Twonky.

The network space might be different, but that would be the thing the check in my opinion.

Good luck.

Thanks for your quick answer! Really unusable? That's hard. Does one need the Twonky thing at all to manage that? Isn't it enough to put the itunes files on the server and then choose them via the ND5xs' display? By the way: It's my most important issue NOT to have a PC or MAC running whilst I listen to music via streaming over ND. Did this at least work (except the problems). Anyway, thanks again, maybe you can tell more.

I have one also and it failed to perform well as a music server.  Note: I was using it for itunes via an airport express and a non naim network streamer. It wasn't fast enough and had all kinds of issues. The interaction with their support people (via email) was maddening - they told me to reload the firmware without mentioning that this would erase the drive. It also took 24 hours to load about 1 TB of music onto it on a GB network and it never successfully completed - I had to chunk it up and baby sit it.

Even as a simple NAS I had issues - would fall asleep and wouldn't wake as it was supposed to, etc.

I've heard great things about QNAP, but eventually went with a Vortexbox and love it.

Yes unusable sadly....the ND5 detected the Twonky Server, but the indexing was completely jumbled up (I want to browse by Artist/Album but this was not offered) and after raising several support tickets with Lacie, they apologised for the UPnP not being as 'robust' as I would have liked!!

I'm not sure about the network space 2....have you checked what they say about the Twonky implementation on the Lacie website for this particular NAS...if I remember correctly it can vary between products.  The key thing is being able to enter a configuration page.  If it says you can, then that's a completely different story.  On the network d2 I was told by support that it is not possible for the user to change ANY settings!

Using a QNAP now, Twonky is very good.

@spacehopper:

Yes, it says there is simple to use configuration sofware and they even share a picture on the website. but, obviously it seems to be not the right choice, as i could read of mutterback as well. I've been trying with  Seagate BlackArmor and had problems to get mad as well. So the reason why I chose LaCie is because it's rather cheap (since it's the second one I have to buy!!) and because it says LaCie seems to work in the "tested NAS" of Stephen.

Thanks for your support, if something else comes to your mind, let me know please. :-)

FOrgot: WHAT Qnap you use now, please?

HEY all! I purchased a QNAP TS 112 with a seagate barracuda HD, mounted, installed, formatted, loaded itunes whole folder on to it in multimedia and it all works PERFECTLY with NAIM ND5XS. It even plays the ALAC files! It's great, really. The only thing is, it does not display me the "Streaming info" if i choose it. no data rate at SOME of the songs, just "jpeg" which makes me woder,since this is the picture tag. But anyhow, this is not a main problem to me.

Alhough I hadn't intended to spend some more - about250 Euro - for a new NAS, i think it's worth it.
