iTunes Match

Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 15 January 2012

I have just been playing around with iTunes Match, and playing it out via my AppleTV2   into my nDAC. I have to say - I am very impressed, and I love its simple interface via AppleTV. The sound quality for the music I have purchased on iTunes is  good and the 320k vbr MP3s from my WAV NAS  I create for the car and iPhone sound ok as well. Ok clearly its not WAV playback quality as I get from my NDX but certainly enjoyable and good enough for me for  casual listening.

Certainly worth a try, and AppleTV2 into the nDAC works very well.

Have you tried Spotify via Airplay through the AppleTV2 into nDAC?

I'd be interested to know - you seem to have all the kit!

Oh I see, well I don't have a spotify account, so perhaps somebody else can comment.

Hi david, how do you use Spotify on the iPad ? I dowloaded the app (free version). When trying to use it, it says I can only play songs that are in my Spotify lists on my laptop. What does that mean. Can't I use spotify on my iPad autonomously and doez it always require Spotify on my laptop ? If so, what is the use/aim of the iPad - Spotify app ?

I'm trying iTunes Match and Spotify on my iPhone at the moment, and like both.  Spotify seems pretty easy to use (almost liberating) - it feels like the way things are going (if only we had something faster than 3G).  Match means that all my old 128bit music is basically upgraded to 256, and better, I can access it from the cloud via the iPhone without having to buy the iPhone biggest possible memory to store it all.  Plus I can stream the output to the Naim system. But I haven't spotted how I can stream music from Spotify to the Naim system yet.   If anyone knows if and how that can be done, I'd be interested.

The iPhone version I have (full version for 48 hrs free trial) lets me search for and play music without any laptop involved.  I'd have thought that the iPad is no different.  Maybe the free version works differently.

Spotify (premium) on iOS devices sends the music wirelessly to AirPlay receivers such as Airport Express or AppleTV. Once Naim streamers get the AirPlay support, we can toss the AE/ATV and stream right into our system.

Alas, there's no native iPad app so scaled iPhone app will have to do for now. Also, the mobile version's bitrate is currently limited (unless playing locally saved tracks) but it's ok for casual listening and hunting for new artists.
