Am I missing something, or is it designed for the iPhone and simply doubles in size (in poor resolution) for the iPad?

Quite right John. Just use normal safari.

The one thing I really wish could be fixed is the way you can't see the full thread title on and iPhone. Is that better on the iPad?

Not as far as I could tell re:seeing full titles on the iPad.
