Power supply failure on unitiserve

Posted by: maze on 22 January 2012

Hi,
I appear to have suffered a power supply failure on my unitiserve. The system is powered 24/7, this weekend I powered down the system to re build fraim and make a few changes. On rebuilding and powering the system up my untiserves is dead. The wall wart power supply's small green led is blinking faintly which I assume is as a result of the power supply failing, the unitiserve itself is totally not powered, no naim logo illuminated.
Has any one here any experience of such a failure?
I have to say when I purchased the us I was a bit taken aback by the unitiserves feeble looking supply and was expecting something a little better or at least the possibility to upgrade the power supply.
Any thoughts would be greatly received.

it will be a switch mode power supply i think .£25 .  thats all is require for such a unit, cost effective . plenty off on web.  although efficient they can fail if ventilation around it is poor

Just got one from maplin  £19.99 reduced from £25' just annoying really as it worked fine until I powered down and then back up.the unitiserve.A better quality one than the one with the unitiserve.
Thanks.

The same thing happened to me a few months ago, complete with faintly flickering light. I borrowed one from the dealer until the free replacement arrived.

Is it ok to use a non-Naim supply? They're not all the same, as I discovered when my laptop's PC failed a few years ago.

I got one with the same voltage etc, actually looks identical complete with green led. I will ask dealer to get me a replacement though as mine is only 5months old, I have had them fail before with laptops.

Power supply is critical on highly tuned systems. Don't think the PS does not matter just because it only outputs zeros and ones. I have an INT202 interface between my Mac and NDAC. I tried a spare Nordost power cable on it and it wad like adding a Naim power supply upgrade, ossicle more so- focus detail bass soundstage. If you have a mid or top end system I believe that everything in the chain matters- don't go cheap because you can if you have a finely tuned system ( on my experience)

Ossicle, what on earth is an ossicle. Sorry I have no idea what that means. My iPod auto spelling has a mind of it's own.

Ossicle is a bone in the middle ear - not completely irrelevant after all. Ha ha.
