convert Naim rips to mp3 for mobile device?
Posted by: aysil on 27 January 2012
What alternative methods would you suggest if I wanted to convert items from my Naim library to mp3 for use in a mobile device, like iPhone for example? Without having to re-enter metadata, of course!
Just a moment, I had found out that MediaMonkey can read Naim library correctly - at least artist, album (including artwork!) and track info. It is actually the only media player. And, it has 'convert format' feature. That may be a solution.
...
Not much use to us Apple / iTunes / iPhone / iPad users though.
...Why not? MM can convert to any destination folder AND has the ability to sync with iDevices instead of iTunes!
... this is not to say that I would not be interested in Naim sorting this out, or much better, Naim making a UnitiPod!
hmmm, MM is not working on your mac!
Aysil,
Simples... no converting required and you can have ALL of your music on your iOS device.
Get J River Media Center.
Set up a "Remote" DLNA Server that "transcodes to MP3" (3 options of compression).
Access this server via PlugPlayer app.
Play ANY music you want from home.
If you need help putting it all together I would be happy to help. The only piece of the puzzle you may not already have is your actual ISP IP address which you will need as the "Base URL" for your "Remote" server.
Also, set-up another (main) DLNA server "Naim" which is set to "NEVER compress". You can use this server when on your home network for ANY and ALL UPnP devices around the house. That includes your iPhone PP app which will show up as a renderer. This would allow for you to stream to your iPhone/Pad and simply use the earphone output to PC speakers or powered speaker etc...
Cheers!

That all works provided you pay for a superb 3 or 4g service Patrick, otherwise game over.
Also if you have a QNAP, you can totally bypass yet another application anyhow. I can access my entire music collection from work with my ipad, direct to the qnap, but then I have the advantage of a wireless network at work to do so.
the problem is neither Jriver server nor twonky in the QNap is able to read Naim library!

Doesn't everyone have a data plan these days? If not you will be "limited" to those areas where there is free wifi, e.g. friends and work, and almost any business. Basically anywhere but your car.
I certainly will NEVER give up my unlimited data plan for $25/mo. Ever. It is already worth its weight in gold.

Dammit!!! That's right. You have ripped to an HDX's internal drive right?
Sorry.
I though DaveD found a way to see his rips in JRMC??? No?
