Its Three Years Today That John Martyn Left this One World.

Lets all play some of the BIG MAN's great music and remember him.
I have just put SAPPHIRE on the LP12.

Hi Stu,
I can't believe it's been 3 years. Watched a great documentary about him recently filmed not long before he died. An eccentric man, very talented, but his own worst enemy with regard to his health. I saw him a number of times in the late '70s/early '80s. Always enjoyable. I'll just go and dig out an album to remember him, maybe 'Stormbringer', with Beverley Martyn.

Cheers Steve,
I hope a few more will join in tonight?
Stu.
Can't believe it is 3 years!
Still sadly missed,
Richard
I love this album.
I can still picture John and Phil Collins having a good old moan about Ex wifes while recording this.
Stu.
This plays...
Heaven & Earth has hardly been out of the CD player all week. Solid Air tonight, perhaps...
My original copy of this black stuff,
John tried to buy this off me more than once over the years. .
Stu.
Now this.
One of the reasons i picked the album above was?
You can hear John talking , music was still fun.
Stu.
Now this
John cracked the Echoplex
and made it work for him
On this album.
3 years doesn't seem possible
Received Heaven & Earth on black stuff today - I think it will be worn out within the week. Great stuff! Greatly missed
Cheers
John
I too bought Heaven and Earth on vinyl based on recommendations here and is that wonderful combination of terrific performances coupled with an amazing pressing. Its so good it has to go on the list of WhatWouldYou PlayToImpressPeople?™
Hi Stu
Sorry this post is a little late, as will be my personal tribute to John tonight. I remember seeing John at the Crucible in Sheffield some time in the 80’s he was magical. My wife still talks about the purple velvet slippers her wore on stage that night!! The gig was like having John in our home. The other poignant memory of that night is I met my best friend at the gig who has also sadly passed away. Therefore the music and voice of John Martin will always take me to that place and time. As Tim Buckley sang Happy Sad.
Thanks for the reminder and link to on the JM website. My vinyl copy of Solid Air has long since gone missing noted that Solid Air is now available again on vinyl thanks to Simply Vinyl. Have you heard it if so what’s the SQ like?
Peace and Love
Graham.
Graham,
Its worth buying.
The SQ is very good.
I still like the original but its hard to find a never played mint condition copy these days.
His last album is also worth getting on CD or now also on vinyl.
Stu.
Hi
Only just seen this thread. Saw JM three times and have lots of his stuff on vinyl and CD. Beautiful music. He really felt it.
I'm going to start with the Live at Bristol 1991 CD, one of the many gigs I had the pleasure of attending, and then One World. Really good to read so many others appreciate his stuff, as the book says, if more people listened to JM the world would be a better place. There's John Martyn and then the rest of music is my view. Now where's the Rizlas...
cheers John

Skin up a biffter and get layed back with your one self one time.
Enjoy.
After 'speakers off' time last night (her ladyship had retired) I checked out some of the great man's live stuff on Tube You. For fans of Heaven and Earth, watch and groove to She's a Lover/Solid Air which have an exquisite JM guitar solo on the first song and a pretty cool Chapman Stick (?) solo during Solid Air. On the drums is the fantastic Arran Ahmun. The Small Hours version, live 1978 from Rockplast, Germany is pretty special too. The voice, guitar, echoplex and drum machine, utterly unique. Final bonus, I came across Carlos Santana doing I dont want know about evil, from Solid Air! The vocals are a bit turgid but the two trademark Santana guitar solos are a delight. Nice tribute.
Cheers John
