How to toggle in the new hoop.la mobile UI?
Posted by: Ketil B on 01 February 2012
As per title, and related to the quote below from hoop.la support page, how do I toggle to get back the standard view on my iPhone? With both the hoop.la iPhone App and this new mobile UI it seems there is no other way to see lastest post in a topic, than to scroll-scroll-scroll. Not very attractive, which is why I would prefer the standard view. As well the titles in the mobile UI are hard to read, being blue and underlined.
“Next week, we are rolling out a mobile interface for Hoop.la that makes the experience on a phone really incredible. Hoop.la already works when viewing on a phone, but our new mobile UI is optimized for the "small screen", making the experience a joy. (Users can also toggle to view the standard/non mobile view, as well, if they wish.)
We think Hoop.la Mobile is one of the most important updates we've ever released and it will provide all of your community members a much better experience when accessing via a phone (with no need to download an app). I'll be posting more info about new mobile interface soon and, again, it will be rolled out to all Hoop.la sites sometime next week.”

If you click on Sign In, without signing in, you can switch to Standard View, and your phone seems to save your choice - for a while, anyway.
As you suggest, this week's mobile release isn't the greatest. When I tried it, I couldn't seem to go down a list of threads without opening one at random, and the thread I look at most has over 1500 replies to scroll through. While the app's not much better, from memory, at least you can click on 'last reply'.

Thank you, Chief, as well for reminding me of the 'Jump to last' option in the iPhone app (I keep overlooking that one)

I hope it's better than their other products.

There is a little cog on the top right hand corner. One of the options here is to click to standard view.

Tried this on three different browsers on my phone. Wasn't useable on any of them. Cogged back to standard view in Opera mini.
Given that this is specifically targeted at mobile devices one would expect it to be at least as good as the standard view. Did they do any testing at all?
Monumental fail!
Regards,
Willy.

Their well tried and trusted method of make the customers do the testing. What a friggin' shower they are.

It has been annoying me this week - really average and just a replication of their useless app. When you are browsing on mobile you want as few page retrieves as possible - it is not easy to get to the last page of the listening thread for instance with unnecessary steps getting in the way. Hope I can get back to what I had before.
PS - now sorted, thanks for the help.

The new mobile UI has very bad performance on my Android phone, crashing the browser, in one word, simply unusable.
Until the new mobile UI came, my phone was the primary device to access the forum and it was working well. Regrettably, this is not possible anymore.
To use the quote from hoop la: "the experience is a joy" and yes, "the experience on a phone is really incredible"...
