Changing Internet provider

Posted by: Southweststokie on 01 February 2012

Hi,

Have looked  through the search function on this topic but could not find comments I read in the past. Some suggested Plusnet, Yorkshire based as being one to go for. I am currently with Pipex, now part of Talk Talk. I don't want to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire, can anyone using Pulsnet now give me an opinion of reliability, helpline performance, etc which at the end of the day are more important than the lowest price.

Many thanks in advance for or any comments,

Ken

I have been with Plusnet since 2004

They have  an effective help line service, they run a problem tracking system that you can read their comments and add your own comments. You can also telephone the help line as well.

Their customer service team is in Sheffield, their voices are clear.

I have had three line problems due to corrosion or bad connections, Plusnet liaised  with Openreach to get the problems fixed.

They are on the ball re getting one upgraded to ADSL2+ and also support FTTC and FTTP services if the service is available to you.

They monitor their own forum as well as the Plusnet forum on the ThinkADSL web site

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/

They also enable you to Redirect incoming mail to other mail systems eg GMail.

They do not require you to use a specific make of web browser.

Hi Ken

Before you select an ISP check what speed you can get from each, you should ensure ADSL2  minimum this will give you up to 20mb. I now get 18.5mbps on average from BT since they uprated my exchange.

Another factor in the speed of my connection is that I improved the wiring and connections internally.

Also look to see if there is a wireless provider in your area as they can offer good speeds ahead of ADSL2 (although not up to Fibre standard).
