N-Serve app not finding Server

Posted by: Terrysmi on 04 February 2012

I have an NDX and  a Uniti Serve. I can see the uniti Serve on my network , i can control it happily from the desktop client but when i go to the n-serve app on my IPod it says server not found. Previoulsy it has worked perfectly - any ideas anyone ?

Make sure that you didn't disable wifi on the iPhone for some reason.  I've done THAT myself a few times and panic when I get home and can't control my uServe . . . . . 'til I re-enable wifi.

Is your wireless on the same subset as your ethernet (assuming that this is how the uniti is connected)

Ok, I am morefamiliar with Nstream rather than Nserve. But the former must have multicast enabled on the wifi for discovery to work properly to see network players. There might be worth checking to see if Nserve does the same. Originally I had issues with a Cisco wireless access point that did not handle multicast in wireless, and si I replaced with Apple Airport Express which does and all was ok.

Sorry to be dumb but i dont know! The Uniti is connected via ethernet and then I am trying to connect via wireless which comes off the same router. I dont think its MultiCast as i can access the Uniti Serve , via wireless, from any PC .

Thanks for taking the time to respond

Something else you can try is to use the browser on your iPod and see if that will connect to the Uniti. (You'll see something like "Naim Hard Disk Player" if it connects, but the browser window will be empty, as it's looking for Flash which the iPod browser doesn't support.)  To do this you'll need the ip address of the Uniti, which should be somewhere in the desktop client.  Type that ip address into the iPod browser address window and hit "Go."  (The ip address, assuming you're not using an Apple router, should be something like 192.168.1.something.  If you're using an Apple router it would be something like 10.0.1.something)

Anyway if you do that, and the iPod browser will connect to your Uniti, you'll know the problem is in the n-Serve app.

Great -- glad you're up and running again without having to delve into subnets, etc etc etc!
