Has anyone had this with their nVi?

Posted by: Consciousmess on 07 February 2012

Hi all,

Before I write this post, I must say that due to what the nVi is, it probably ranks as my favourite component, but something has been happening fairly recently and I want to know if anyone else experiences this.  I would like to also say that I recently got the nVi back from a full service after being concerned about the delay and not locking on to the signal.

Anyway, sometimes right now the nVi shows that it's locked on to e.g. the Sky HD signal, but no sound comes out and this is in 5.1.  Funnily enough when I put it in mono, the sound comes out of the centre speaker!

Does anyone know what's going on?  It doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes.  My other equipment is NAP250.2; nDAC; Blu Ray player; 282; nSATs et al. speakers.

Many thanks,

Jon

Nice T shirt Jon.  anyway, I just wanted to say I've flagged this for tech input from HQ.

I've flagged it up for our n-Vi guru to take a look at when he has the chance but can I reiterate that support queries are much better routed to "support@naimaudio.com" and put through that way...

Cheers

Can you drop me an email directly at phil.harris@naimnet.com ?

I need to know what software versions you are running on your unit and also the serial number.

The software version can be obtained by pressing and holding PROG button on remote control for 5 seconds. Front panel will display one of the below sets of strings for latest firmware. (See below for information on the two firmware releases)

PIC c02-15
CHEERS 000.189.005.006

OR

PIC c02-16
CHEERS 000.189.005.003

NOTE: If the n-Vi has the latest display fitted the software will be

PIC c02-21
CHEERS 000.189.005.006

OR

PIC c02-22
CHEERS 000.189.005.003

Firmware status:- Last updated 27 October 2008 (available as disc based update via your dealer)

Important information concerning n-Vi code versions: 0.189.5.6/DVc02-15 and c02-21/189.005.006 also 0.189.5.3/DVc02-16 and c02-22/189.005.003

To accomodate for a material dependant variance concerning SPDIF latency, Naim have released two versions of n-Vi code. As per 27th October 2008, new builds of n-Vi will be delivered running 0.189.5.6/DVc02-15 code. This has, amongst other things, fixes for lip-sync/latency issues at the expense of longer SPDIF lock-on times (material dependant).

We would recommend using the current production code if you are an avid movie fan, but if you are mainly watching SKY and regular TV and are experiencing problems the longer SPDIF lock-on times, then we would suggest you speak with your dealer, who can supply you with 0.189.5.3/DVc02-16 and DVc2-22. Note:- this has relatively fast SPDIF lock on times, but increased system latency which could at times contribute to lipsync problems.

Thanks
