The Perfect Advertisement for Classical Music?

Morning All

Forgive me for this stream of consciousness but if I spend time carefully editing I'll never get around to posting!

Why am I excited? Well: I've just downloaded from the Society of Sound an HD Video of the LSO conducted by Gergiev playing Ravel's Bolero. I put it on to play out of curiosity more than anything else (I'm not primarily a fan of classical music but my listening does extend beyond Torville and Dean)

I have to say though that I was completely blown away by:

-  the quality of the playing (conductor superb)

-  the quality of the photography

-  the beauty of the instruments

but ultimately by the sheer life enhancing beauty of music captured at its best. I love listening to music (not surprising I guess in the context of the Naim forum) but it is wonderful to be reminded from first principles what a joy it is - it also reminded me of just what a complete assault on the senses watching an orchestra in full flow really is.

The heartening thing was when I played it to my better half (fresh from teaching flute) she sat and watched it all the way through with similar enthusiasm. Perhaps this should be circulated at schools as a way of engaging the next generation of music lovers - I'll certainly be seeking permission to share it with my daughter's music teacher.

So as you've probably gathered I heartily recommend this especially for introducing the next generation.

...........oh and the string players even manage to avoid looking bored!

Thanks for reading - I feel better now!

Martin

P.S. Now all I need to do is fathom a way of playing it through the HiFi!
