Reports that Whitney Houston has died

Posted by: TomK on 11 February 2012

Not a fan but she was obviously a massive figure in the music business.

Cause and location apparently unknown.

It's being reported by the BBC and various other reputable sources.

When you Google "I don't do stairs" you get...Oprah.

To find out how difficult stairs are go get some high heels and a long dress, see how difficult it is to go up or down with grace...

men have it easy

Whitney does stairs... bought herself a 'Stairway To Heaven'

Perhaps Led Zep will turn up at the funeral to play...

So many average to acid posts about WH and her voice in this forum, it is appalling.  I cannot believe it!  She was one of the greatest singers ever, people.  Sadly, she was used and abused by the Industry like so many other genuine talents.

Booby,

I have to agree with you on the posts.  Brilliant voice (although her music was not in my zone), I could still appreciate it.  She was led to ruin by Bobby Brown it would seem.

I'm with you Frank...except I did buy Whitney...one of the best voices ever!

Sorry, just because she's died I'm not suddenly going to like her music.

As for the used and abused I'd also suggest that addiction is a disease that is to do with the person as well as the environment. She was perhaps failed by the industry, but she was also ill (or so it apears from all we read) and may have ended up in exactly the same state if she'd been a shelf packer in Wal-Mart. Maybe if we talked about drugs and alcohol in these terms a bit more rather than as a lifestyle choice of the rich and famous we might have a better attitude to these sufferrers, and a more sensible approach to prevention and treatment.

Quite agree. No-one ever seems to be responsible for their own actions anymore. It's their environment and their partners that are always to blame. Plenty of other people have achieved fame and wealth in the same industry without going down the same bath as WH and Amy W. They may not have had enough support from family and friends but we choose our partners so most likely had some inkling of the life they were going to lead. These women threw their lives and their talent away. Very sad,

ITV 2 last Sunday night. I thought to myself, bloody hell, they're fast, she's only been dead 12 hours!

That is not actually what I was saying, in fact rather the reverse if you read my post carefully!

Addiction is an illness that is not always about personal choice(s). Some are vulnerable, they need help and treatment, not criticism or ridicule. That is not to absolve them of all personal responsibility but to balance this with the concept of illness. We don't blame people for getting depression or schizophrenia, and hopefully we try to treat them. People with multiple addiction problems need a similar approach.

I agree that both women suffered from addiction issues and no doubt some mental health issues. I just don't buy the idea that the record industry killed them,

I agree with you, sister.  Too easy to blame a 'system' for the shortcomings

Of individuals.  Talent and success often leads to self destruction.

Did not get to see my Minder friend yesterday as he was called to work yesterday by the singer he now works for full time. I do see him on a regular basis and for my own satisfaction want to get to the bottom of this. Will post again soon i hope.

From what I remember it's an urban legend about Mariah Carey. That's not to say Whitney Houston didn't say it as well of course.

I saw C de Bs minder in the gym this morning and asked him if he was winding me up...Re the stairs bit. he assures me it happened,he worked about 10 days for her in London about 15 or so years back.

But even more crazy on the first nite he saw this guy walking around the stage holding a thermometor. his job was to make sure the temparature on stage was just right before she would start her act. You carnt make that up can ya.

Actually that's a lot less crazy than it seems - certainly less than not " doing stairs"..If I was a mega star singer whose act depends on being in great voice, then the right temperature on stage would make a difference to how the voice performed and how the singer was feeling. Not crazy at all when you come to think of it. If you are freezing cold or too hot then you're not going to perform at your best, are you?

When people on here spend countless hours fiddling with cables, deciding which shelf to put their equipment on, moving their speakers  a centimeter either side just to get their hi-fi systems to work correctly then you can't complain about a singer, who depends on her living for her voice, taking measures to get it to sound as good as it she can get it. What people do to get their Naim stuff to  sound right may sound FAR more ludicrous to the man on the street,

Yes it does, because the system preys on vulnerable talents.

Do you think WH has ever had her say about the school she would like to go to, the legal, medical, engineering ... profession she would like to pursue, the choice of people apart from the Industry predators around her, the partner she could meet and live with other than BB and the likes?

Do you think we are really FREE in this world???

Come on
