System Automation

Morning all,

Thought I would share my experience with system automation, I think I have found something interesting, but doubt most of you don't already know. I remember a post about a gentleman struggling to get system automation working on his new 252.

Well, as soon as I got my NDX "bedded in" I wanted to setup system automation from my iPad 2, after being a spanner and ordering a 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo jack cable, to then find out that my NAC202 uses an RCA for that, I then rummaged around and found a Chord iChord 3.5mm to RCA, plugged this in with only the left plug connected to the 202, set it up in the NDX to control a pre, and bingo, all worked a treat.

Obviously an iChord for system automation is daft given the cost and function, so I ordered and cheapie from eBay, replaced the iChord, and it worked "initially" but found it really sluggish, and completely unresponsive at times. I left the cable in for a couple of days, and the same thing, slow and at times didn't work at all, so have now gone back to the iChord.

I've ordered a mono 3.5mm to RCA, again a cheapie from eBay, and will see what that does, but thought I would share my thoughts.

Kind regards

Jo

Interesting that the cable makes a difference to the response of system automation.  I'm using a cheap and cheerful lead from my assortment of left over computer cables and it works fine.

Out of interest, does your NDX IR remote control the volume of the 202?

Hi Richard,

i'll wait for the new cheapie cable to turn up, probably the cable was just a bit of a dudd, but thought I would post it anyway, not suggesting anyone should use an expensive cable just for system automation, but maybe anyone experiencing problems in setting it up might try changing the cable and see if this sorts the problem.

Just tested it, yes, the NDX remote does control the volume on the 202.

Kind regards

Jo

I think dud is more likely. I'm using a 60p special from Amazon and it works perfectly.
