Controversial

There is too little controversy in the Padded Cell.

On balance, I think I prefer a state of peace and harmony...

Dear Richard,

Sometimes the spats between Berlin Fritz and Mick Parry were the biggest laugh of the day!

I am sure it was a nightmare to moderate though!

I was going to say bring back Berlin Fritz, that was hilarious to read. How anyone could write some of that stuff I do not know but it was entertaining.....

George, looks like I was right.

From now on, you have to agree with everything I say, and so does everybody else.

Simple. We don't want to give Richard a hard time................

Bloody Hell Don!

I hope no one thinks I am secular or rich!

That is almost insult to me - not your insult of course, just to avoid confusion!

But what ever is wrong with a bit of not so polite straight disagreement! Even a bit of personal abuse does not go too far amiss in my view.

I remember Fritz telling me that because I am half Norwegian I must be more or less guaranteed to have a significant anti-German bias. I would not deny it! But I am always polite to them [Germans], and the two whom I met and got to know came to be at least mutually respectful with me.

I don't believe that burying disagreement helps at all. Better to yell at someone than thump them!

I seem to stumble into creating controversy with some of the jokes I post, but I've only been suspended once or twice and had a handful of jokes removed. I've been on the forum since '99, so that's not bad I suppose.

Dear Tony,

To be real Cell contributor, you need to be banned permanently, and creep back under an alias!

Mr Fiske,

Your aliases are far from subtle, yet you survive down here

Cheers

George, I hate computers. Changing to an alias would cause my teeth to catch fire. Tony

And was never actually banned either!!

For those not in the know: Fredrik Fiske, then George Fredrik. So not so many, and asked for voluntarily!

But that is not the real point. We used to be able to have a real rumble, quite serious, make good philosophical points, but now it is all candy floss!

I remember telling Mr Parry that giving a tramp a £1 might well feed his Vodka habit, but why not? The middle and upper classes can indulge their habits without being regarded as the undiserving poor! Yet they are not morally better because their parents had left them a private income for life, or a decent education.

He agreed that giving some big Issue seller a £1 was quite satisfying, the next time!

We need more of this sort of interaction!
