So...after an extensive listening session, I have to say some things...
1)
The 2012 vinyl remaster is very good. Nice clarity, nice punch. In my ears a bit too "nice", too "polished". The instruments are nicely separated and the sound of the drums is fantastic. The soundstage is pretty big.
The vinyl is very quiet and in an excellent condition upon arrival (I dont like the original cardbox-innersleeves, though).
All-in-all a fantastic re-issue, if someone has no other pressings at hand..., because
2)
The UK-1st-pressing sounds much more "REAL". More aggressive, more punch, more everything. I couldnt believe my ears how loud it played on the same volume as the 2012-remaster.
The drum-sound kicks the 2012´s ass badly, as do the bass and the guitars...The UK is more in ya face. The soundstage is incredibly bigger than the 2012-remaster.
3)
The Japanese-1st pressing kind of lacks in the area of "power" of the UK, BUT the dynamics on this wonderful pressing is just stunning. Compared to this, the 2012 sounds like "dead".
Also, if you prefer DETAIL over in ya face, the Japanese 1st is the choice no 1.
Conclusion.
The Uk-1st and the Japanese 1st beat the 2012 by a lot of miles, although the 2012 sounds really really good.
My BIGGEST realization:
I will NEVER EVER buy a VINYL-RECORD again which is from a digital source.
What brought this realization about?
The FRIGHTENING difference in the dynamics of the 2012-remaster and Uk and Japanese 1st...unbelievable.
Long live analogue!

Interesting coverage Thorsten. Can's wait to see The Wall 2012 vinyl remaster soon in my music collection.
Last month, my brother-in-law gave me his UK pressing The Wall LP which he kept in a closet for nearly 30 years old. Thank God, that the double LPs are still good. Thanks to the cardbox-innersleeves (in my case) whereby some LPs were ruined due to the bad plastic sleeves for being kept for so long.
Yes, I agreed analogue wins here. I believe the drums and the bass lines are tighter & engaging, which is better than... ermm you know what I mean. Sorry, I can't describe it by words.
Cheers!!

+1 Thorsten.
Do you have your Z_plug yet.

Coming...Peter send it out yesterday!!!!
Is it really such a big upgrade...CANT WAIT!!!
@Iron Cobra
Why not?
24€ is not that much and it is nice to have a very quiet pressing.
Otherwise, you are right.
We all learn, not?

Thorsten
Why not?
I believe you answered the question yourself.
Will you play it again, if you have the original?
It may be quite, but at the expense of what?

T,
I have had my copy of The Wall vinyl on pre-order from amazon from day one, many many months ago.£21.60
Just had mail to say its on its way with tracking number.
Given the 27th is the release date for this album.
How did you get yours so early from them?
Stu.

Richard,
I remember the day it came out so well.
I was on crutches for four months.
Had to get a friend from work to pick it up for me in his lunch hour.
Had that copy on order only for a month though and it was under a fiver.
I was stuck in a office working with auditors for weeks as we were being bought out by EMI at the time.

T,
Take a real time picture of the album cover and one on your deck and post it.
I will put money on you not doing this.
Nothing has shipped from any amazon until today.
hmv started shipping on Friday just to get the money in but nothing went out until today/tomorrow also.

If you didnt like the WYWH?
It seems bloody odd that you would bother with the Wall?As its much of the same??
Did you try the 2011 DSOTM ?
Have you tried WYWH on the Z plug?
Stu.

The 2011 DSOTM is good. 2011 WYWH is dull, the Z-Plug wouldn't even help it. The Mastersound is the one to get.
I buy all pressings I'm interested in and never listen to anyone else's review. If I lose money on a poor pressing, so be it.

And what would it prove to put in a picture?
It arrived last Friday.
I don´t have time machine and man, you can believe it or not.
Why would I care?
You always "question" my "stuff"...should I also make a picture of the UK-1st-pressing and the Japanese 1st??
Take a chill-pill and save your money, dude.

I've decided to hold off buying it for now. I have a minty 1st pressing. The quality of the pressing is not that good though with some intermittent surface noise, typical of late '70s pressings on quite thin vinyl. The actual music quality is very good though.
I loved this album when I first bought it on the day it was released but went off it following the film. I can't stand Bob Geldof and it put me off the whole album. That's why it's in such good condition.
Generally I have been a little disappointed with the SQ of DSOM and WYWH remasters. I think it's a feature of digital manipulation rather than a deterioration of the master tapes. Good analogue remastering produces better results: just listen to the US RTI pressings of the Doors albums.
