Naim Desktop Client

Posted by: shing on 25 February 2012

Just got a HDX/NDAC. It is truly a wonderful combination for music. For cataloging, it is a nightmare.

I have encountered some 1 big problem.

I have a Network Share and a Music Store. Albums on the music store are all editable from the Naim Desktop Client - changing Album Names, Artist etc etc. However albums on the Network Share does not seem to be editable at all - I could only upload Album covers..

Am I to assumed that only Music Store albums are editable?

Is there anyway to merge multiple Music Store?

Where can I get more documentation on the Rebuild DB in Tools/Settings & Function. What does rebuild DB do? rebuild music store? rebuild network share? rebuild internal indexes/frames of music store?

any assistance would be appreciated.

thanks

You cannot edit network shares direct from the Desktop client just Music Stores, I edit my network shares via  my PC/Laptop using Tag & Rename although there are many alternatives. Where is your network share located?.

Also why do you need to merge your Music Stores, as the HDX will locate all music accross the stores and present it as a single catalogue.

Not sure about the rebuild DB function.

Thanks for the input Gerry. If I edit the tags in Music Store  then I demote the music store to a network share, does the edited tags stays?

Not sure about that, as I have not tried it.

Get a tag editor such as mp3tag or tag&rename. Most of the server softwares are absolutely unsuitable for tagging. Many of them download tags from the internet and display them as if they were embedded while they are just proposals.

People, is there a desktop application for Uniti, SU or UQ?

This app works only with streamers, doesn't it?

Thanks

The desktop client?

That'll be servers.

Hi Guys,

Desktop Client is for the editing of information attached to the files that are ripped by our servers ... so music held on their own drives and on any network *STORES*. Network *STORES* are locations that the server itself manages and should not be accessed or modified by any user or program other than the server itself (the Desktop Client doesn't access the store directly - it controls the server and the server makes the changes).

Network *SHARES* are regarded by the server as read only - the server will not modify any files that are in shares. Music in shares is that which you have downloaded or ripped in iTunes etc. and the tagging information on those files should be managed using whichever is your favoured tag editing program.

I hope that helps...

Cheers

Phil

Use Desktop Client to move music from one store to another ... under "Tools" -> "Music Repositries" -> "Stores for Ripped Music", open up the Music Stores tree by clicking on the "+" beside it and you can see what Music Stores are set up. If you select a music store then you can see what music is on each Store. you can then select one or more albums and drag them to a different store and the server will move them for you.

Rebuild DB makes the server (at next boot) flush all it's current caches of what music files are on what stores and then it will go through all of it's stores rescanning them and creating a new database.

any Windoze desktop client acting as the full fledged remote control for Uniti, SU and UQ?

Desktop client performs music management and control for music stored on the server products (HDX / UnitiServe / NS0x) and so will not be able to do music management for the UPnP client devices as they do not store any music and do not function in the same way.

Yes I know that, but I would like to have a simple desktop application for WinPC, and for Android too,  that can be used as a remote control for Uniti (with input selection, volume control etc.).  I have a few Android apps for Sony and Samsung TV and BDVD devices and they are excellent.  So I am after something similar perhaps?  I just find Uniti's remote non-convenient because I tend to listen to the music in the background while doing something on my computers in the other corner of the lounge etc.  And I want to be able to control Uniti (which is downstairs) while listening to my wireless headphones upstairs, from my laptop or my tab.

Somebody on this forum already made a nice Mac remote control desktop app for UQ that works with Uniti, too.  But I now have a mixed Win/OS X environment at home and I need something similar for Win (and Android, hopefully)
