Airplay integration
Posted by: Elija123 on 29 February 2012
Dear forum,
I am new here and would like to know WHEN Naim is planning to integrate Airplay in their streaming devices? I know that there has been an article in What-Hifi in which was said that it should be in Q1 2012. Are there any further news when it will be??? I am really waiting for that! (like a child for christmas)
Thanks!
Surely the easiest way to play music in your kitchen or bedroom is to get an iPod dock of some type - possibly a Zepplin - and plug your iPod in. I can't see the benefit of streaming from your PC/NAS. You would need to keep going to your PC to choose songs or use ipeng on your iPod to choose a song!
Why would you need to do that? If you were using AirPlay, you can just control iTunes with the Remote app on an iPhone or iPad. If you had an AirPlay enabled system, like the Zeppelin, I think you can control iTunes from that too (there's certainly an option to allow the device to control iTunes, in iTunes).

Hi Simon,
I wrote: With AirPlay I could lie in bed and stream from the iPod to the dock - I can see the advantage there. In an earlier post,
You don't need to plug it in to the new Zepplin with Airplay. On the other hand, if you buy a non-Airplay dock, it is easy enough to plug it in.

PinkHampster,
What a nasty post.
setting up a laptop in the kitchen .... with external speakers .... really a brilliant idea .... maybe for some poeple's kitchens, usually this will be quite unhandy
No need for the sarcasm. I do use mine in the kiychen. Don't judge evryone by your own standards.
The Squeezebox Radio only takes up a fraction of the space of a Laptop plus speakers.
It may do, but so what? I mentioed other options too, such as an ipod dock.
The problems with LMS were ONLY with version 7.6.x. We are now well into 7.7x and all trouble is long forgotten, except for those ever yester-dayers still clinging on to 7.5.x , which also works flawlessly in most cases btw.
I put my Squeezebox away 2 years ago (ish) becauce 7.5.xx was broken. About 2 months ago I gave it to a friend for a week to try in his system. He could not get it to work with his XP laptop. I went around to try to help. I got the radio going but no streaming.
The performance is outstanding nowadays.... the usability is, I dare say, the best in class.
I beg to differ. it does not work.
You may rant on the SQ of Squezzeboxes which underlies subjective experiences, but the performance and usability of the Squeezebox System is superb.
Rant? A bit childish.
Guess what, I do not have a Naim streamer because of its rotten control point software!!!
Well to be honest my streamer software works - which is more than I can say for the Squeezebox software. It is clunky and far from ideal. I actually use JRiver with a matching iPad control application. It works really well and is very fast.
If you respond, try to be civil. It will cost you nothing.

Can a QNAP NAS really stream to a stock (ie. not jail broken) Apple TV?
AppleTV requires iTunes Homesharing in order to stream remote content (ie. authenticated via an iTunes account).
Most NAS provide a DAAP server for iTunes, but these do not support iTunes Homesharing. My Synology NAS certainly doesn't and is running on the latest version of their software.
Do QNAP or any other NAS vendors have a working implementation of iTunes Homesharing?
Huw, I'll try to be as civil as possible:
That fact that you are obviously incapable of getting a squeezebox to run, which thousands of other poeple, inluding myself, seem to manage quite sufficiently does not exactly qualify you give any advise on these products.
PinkHamster.
You carry on telling people how good the Squeezebox is - put your argument for using it across and let people choose what they would like to use. But, please refrain from getting nasty with people who don't agree with your opinions or put over a different point of view. There is no need for such a nasty argumentative approach.
As you act like a child I can only assume you are. I have better things to do with my time than to respond to any more of your juvanille posts.
Goodbye,
