HDX and 174.6/24 files

Posted by: sktn77a on 09 March 2012

Posted this in the HiFi Corner forum yesterday (hopefully the reason I got no replys):

About this time last year, Naim Tech Support posted the attached response to a queery on playback sampling depth/bit rate compatibility for the HDX:

https://forums.naimaudio.com/di...ent/3678285650986709

"There is a hardware limitation on the motherboard in hdx series where 176k will not play (chip used by vendor changed) - we have to do something, so it was decided that 176 is converted to 44.1."

Is there any information on the serial number range for which this limitation exists (the response might imply that the earliest units may not have this limitation and perhaps later units also)?

Thanks

Keith

I just ordered a new ND5 XS and wonder if that has the same issue.

I have the 176k albums and can confirm HDX converts at 44k but the nd5 XS plays it at native rate

NIce to know. I've had my ND5 since Monday. I don't have any 176k tracks, but I'm only just starting to build a digital collection (after being a vinylphile for the last 4 decades).

Total bummer!  I don't expect such a cheap kludge on an $8500, (supposedly) state of the art, player/streamer!
