Spotify

Posted by: totemphile on 13 March 2012

Hi

I noticed there are a number of Spotify apps on the Apple App store, has anyone tried these? If so which ones did you find useful and why?

Or is it better to use Spotify via the Sonos app, if you have a ZP90?

Last but not least, can Spotify be navigated via a Naim streamer, such as the ND5XS?

Many thanks

Hi tp,

I use the Spotify app on my iPod to feed into my nDac. I use an inexpensive dock that has just a usb output, and this is permanently plugged into  the rear port of my nDac.

Sound quality is reasonable, particularly for album evaluation.

Spotify on iPad

AirPlay to o Apple TV which is plaugged into the nDac

Hopefully will be able to remove Apple TV if we see AirPlay integrated into the Naim streamers

You can not navigate Spotify on my NDX. You can only use the iPod music player itself.

You can navigate Spotify on an iPodPad through the nDAC though. If you use 320kbs it sounds prestty good.

Forgive my ignorance, but can I stream Spotify Premum from my iPad to an Apple TV/Express?

Hi Keith

You can indeed. Open up the Spotify, start playing something then double click on your ipad/phone's button and then slide to the right twice to reveal the Airplay button.

For those using your iPhone and iPad streaming to your system don't forget to go into settings and select Stream to "Extreme" and Sync to "High Quality".

Obviously of use only to a tiny minority of people reading this, but if you have Virgin's TiVo box, you get six months free of Spotify Premium, then it's a quite pricey £9.99 a month. But taking the digital output from the TiVo straight into my SU, the sound is really not bad, certainly acceptable for evaluating albums or background listening, and I think I may pay up.

Where are these settings - on the iPad (if so, where?) or on Apple TV?

Thanks

Thanks Jay. So, I don't need Airfoil, or special apps?

Posted on: 13 March 2012 by Jay

@Paul - settings in the Spotify iPad app. I am assuming you have Premium?

@Keith - no need for Airfoil if you are streaming from an iPad or an iPhone. I do use Airfoil from my iMac to stream from the Spotify application on the iMac to an ATV2 or Airport Express.

Thanks Jay,

So, I don't need Airfoil because Spotify Premium is already on the iPad. Happy days :-)

You're very welcome.

The feature isn't from Spotify as such, it's a native to IOS. I also use an Internet radio app a lot and use the same airplay feature to stream to the speakers around the house.

Keith as Jay says because its an iOS feature you an use with a lot of apps on the iPad/iPhone - its quite useful for catching up radio shows via the BBC iPlayer app also

Thanks everyone. I was thinking more along the lines of using a Spotify app on your iPAD / iPhone to control and navigate Spotify on your MacBock or Mac Mini remotely?

No point really to remote access is there? All the music is in the "cloud", your playlists, etc, all sync up under your login.
