Black stuff on the way. Means another long wait for the next release.

Thanks for the heads-up. Their fiendish ploy of offering the free download has worked in my case, as I have now ordered the vinyl on the back of it. It might even retain its value, though, if you believe it when they state that there is a limited run of 1,000 copies.

thank you from me too. Vinyl and cd ordered.

The programme is available on iPlayer - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01f89x3#synopsis

Paul is interviewed around 90 mins into the show and sounding very well from a damp Glasgow.

I'm so glad I bought the deluxe CD version with the extra tracks and the vinyl I hope is a stunner.

Here's the full Jools Holland Interview on R2, featuring playbacks of Two Children, My True Country, Mid Air & a performance of Norwegian Wood...

http://soundcloud.com/paul-buc...chanan-interview-and

The interweb has started an August tour rumour. Paul did say in his Stuart Macone interview, it was possible he might tour & play 'Mid-Air' as the first half & 'Blue Nile' in the second half. That would be worth seeing for sure.

Thanks for the tip!

Much as I would rather give money direct to the artist, really I would, the website wants £14.99, and a postage/shipping charge of £15.38 to send to me in France.

Amazon, where I had already pre-ordered it as it happens, want £13.99 + £2.25 for the same thing. Well I suppose it's just possible that the 180g vinyl is the limited-to-1000 issue, but it seems more likely to be the same thing to me.

I'm sorry I'd happily pay a pound more to PB's site/fulfilment company, and I'd tolerate a slightly higher postage charge also - there's buying power in being a behemoth after all, but I simply cannot justify paying double.

I tend to agree with you. It is also £13.99 at "HMV" with free postage to the UK. You would think that cutting out the middle man would make it cheaper, not more expensive !

I think he has a great voice and was looking forward to this album but (whisper it) is it me but are the two tracks released so far on YouTube a bit ...dull?

Got the album and even at 30 odd minutes I'm finding it a little much to take in one sitting. Songs don't really take shape or longer in the memory until heard in isolation or small clusters of 2 or 3. It's s bit like an elongated Easter Parade. Fantastic but you have to be in the mood for it. Essentially it's 3 demo tapes stuck together. Very good ones but nevertheless that's that's what it is. 3 EPs might have been better. It's also a tad one paced and whilst the mood is set beautifully by the opener and title track am I really the only one yearning for a change of pace halfway through. A piano led Heatwave, which was itself hardly s rocker!!! The other thing that struck me is that live his was one of the very best voices I've heard. Very strong and controlled. Often transfixing. On this album he often sings well within himself. There's precious little sense of him letting rip and several songs that clearly warrant it. It's been noticeable that the live versions of these tracks highlight that not only does he still let rip but there are now some big cracks in the voice and that sense of weaknesses being hid is sticking with me. The live version of the title track illustrates this beautifully. On record his voice drops to a whisper in places. Live he sings those same lines out loud but the voice cracks. Sometimes that's incredibly attractive but once you realise what's going on the attraction dims. So for me it's lovely to have him back and excellent in small doses. Overall though I think some problems are emerging.

Mike - agree.  Have played the CD in the car for the last few days and it just doesn't gel as an album.

I thought the last Blue Nile album was made up largely of half-ideas and outtakes and never really hit the hoped-for heights. If this solo effort is the same it is a wee bit of a worry considering the time between releases! It is a long while since the last great Blue Nile song IMHO.

He might be a great voice but I think he needs a songwriter. What I have heard of the new album sounds like scraps and sketches.
