UnitiServe: CD drive make crazy noises then ejects CD

Posted by: WonkyBit on 04 April 2012

Sounds like the CD drive does not clamp down properly. Seen / heard this on PCs so figure the optical drive just failed.

Is there any realign / reset ninjitsu in the desktop client or the on UnitiServe interface to exercise the drive?

A couple of proper power cycles did not sort it out. Also if I sent a copy of my DD-214 form complete with lots of nice USMC electronics tech training you think Naim will send me the optical drive to swapout?

No, NAIM will not send you the drive even if you are God himself (well, maybe they would send him one.....  just in case)!  Is there any reason yopu can't take it to your dealer for warranty service?

Just had the drive replaced in my serve, Naim had it back too me with updated front panel in a week.

RS, what was wrong with your front panel?

sktn, I got the unitiserve as an ex demo from the UK [I am in the usa]. Being a hybrid buyer like that means parts are covered but I eat the labor. [When the nDac lost its way with the oscilator board that was the case.]

Now if my local dealer can swap the drive I would be set, as Ken and John at Promusica are first class. Anyway I want to see if they have any leads on a used NAP300. [I have a pair of 135s.]

Plus the thought of shipping the uniti to Indianapolis and back for a 5 minute 8 screw repair makes me queasy and a bit sad. I really wish Charlie and David were still in Chicago.

WonkyBits Latest front panel has small hole for ejecting discs.

Humm. That would be worth shipping it to Indy.
