What a plonker.

What a plonker.

They should have run over him and carried on with the race.
****!
Good on him. Elitist ****s in boats don't own the river.
Neither does the t**t in the water. He should be charged with some sort of public disorder offence.
Cheers

Just another sign of the times:
They’ve closed down too many swimming pools, just like they’ve sold off and over-developed sports fields with boxy cheap crappy housing for the poor people who they what to control, rip off, and don’t care about.
Modern athletic endeavour has now become another money grabbing professional pursuit of the Olympic mussel-bound freaky celebrity elite class, or in this case a bunch of over privileged young spoilt Toffs in boats who don’t, and never will have to go to work for a living.
Ordinary people, who may be strong and fit enough to go for a healthy swim in the river are not allowed to be considered athletic, ordinary people are only considered as potential wage slaves of this un-elected Plutocratic society.

Bloody hell?
I wont mention the Horse race

Right, a guy who went to LSE hardly is the poster child to demonstrate against Elitism. Shame they didn't smack him over the head.
"Oldfield, who studied contemporary urbanism at the London School of Economics, has a website called Elitism Leads to Tyranny, which discusses civil disobedience tactics"
Good on him. Elitist ****s in boats don't own the river.
And by "own" you mean use it one day a year for less than an hour.
And by "elitist xxxx's", you would include my very down-to-earth and hard-working buddy who slaved like beaver for years and years for the honour of being selected in the Oxford 8 a few years back.
I agree that there are more worthwhile pursuits in an absolute sense, but I don't see why you should rip on personal sacrifice and achievement - even if the goal is ultimately a very selfish and trivial one. A lot of people never try to excel at anything. Some even try never to excel. Those people are the very worst kind of reverse snobs.

Well they don't "use it one day a year for less than hour" do they?. They use it far more than that.
Yes I do include your buddy. It has not been some intervarsity amatuer contest for many years - it is a naked commercial venture that reflects badly on what it used to be and on those who strive to get their face on TV.

We're talking about something different, then.
Whatever "class-warfare" connotations are put onto it, the actions of a spoil-sport remain just that.
If some people want to carry on a class warfare for the modern times, there are more effective ways to do that that don't spoil such an event as the Boat Race.
I have no idea whether the swimmer has actually broken any law, but if he has then I hope [after due court hearings] he gets a sentence that is more of a disruption to his life than financially ruinous. Such as some hours of Community Service, rather than jail or a big fine, though undoubtedly it would be fair for him to bear costs.
Every action has its consequences, and people should be reminded of that.

Life not quite working out for you, Debs? Why the bitterness?
Whatever the event it seems a shame that a single individual can effectively destroy the preparation work of the athletes and teams by ruining the event-although it sounds like it was the most ineresting race in years for the non partisan spectator! I did not see the race.
As for all the class-envy stuff I'll lob this scenario into the mix. "Sensationally Alex Tristam-Wyford has disrupted the World Darts Final by leaping into the the arena and placing himself in front of the dartboard to protest about university tuition fees"
Seems to me that some of the contributers to this thread (and perhaps the protester himself according to the comments apparently attributed to him) might respond to this by once again ridiculing the 'toff'. Makes you think perhaps?

+1 x 100 Bruce
+1 to all those who think this guy is a ****
-1 to those who think he a good guy with a just cause - go get a life.
OK he may be a pratt. You may not agree with his his motives.
But give him SOME credit, he pulled it off to perfection.

Splitter!
He may have achieved his objectives fatcat, but perfection, err ?? no don't think so.
A head bobbing around & spitting river water hardly has the same charisma as the the noble revolutionary addressing the proletariat with the waving flag on the town hall steps.

Why?
Anyone who buggers uo the widely enjoyed and lawful enjoyment of large numbers of others needs to be reminded that society functions by consent.

I don't have any particular sympathy for this guy but I do wonder if what he did is materially much different from what one of the sufragettes did roughly a hundred years ago at the Derby.
Chris
Nice face,
shame about the boat race : )

And was that sensible?
