UPnP for Mac Osx

Posted by: Mono on 12 April 2012

just got my Uniti at the weekend, managed to set it up and even gott it to stream from my iTunes library on my iMac using Eyeconnect. Can pick up i Radio and Radio Paradise sounds great however Apple Lossless files won't play even though the Uniti/Eyeconnect seems to list them.

Reading lots on the net about other upnp servers but seems to be not much choice for Macs.

Anyone got any any suggestions on what best to try?

Majestic or Playback. Work perfectly with ITunes and Mac OSX.  Tried Eyeconnect once and got rid of it pretty quickly.

Hi,

I'm using Playback to stream apple lossless from mac mini to ndx.  Works fine though the interface via the n-stream app is a bit clunky.

Hope this works OK for you

Its the problem with proprietary file types such as apple lossless bro.

Convert them to flac and remove yourself from the itunes there.

Thanks, just tried majestic and it's sorted. Think I'll keep the Flac conversion idea for a rainy day & when I'm a bit more confident in streaming.

Try elyric from Ps audio. Not perfect yet but it is fast and cover art works! And ps audio is actively working to improve the app. Still free right now so the price is right for a quick trial Scott B.

If you are running an iTunes managed library on a mac then playback or majestic are all you need. They both integrate fully with iTunes, reading the library file correctly and delivering the album artwork as you see in iTunes. I've yet to find anything better to do this.

But UPnP stands for UNIVERSAL PLUG and PLAY! How could there be a problem? The name says it all. It is "Universal", And it is "Plug and Play". What could be ore simple than that?

winky,

why do you have to [be a] bitch??  People are finding good ways to use upnp within your precious garden.  What is wrong with that?  Enjoy your new "recorded for compressed audio" music my friend.  I will put $20 on that fact that you are listening Gotye RIGHT NOW.

Apple is a great business.  Ridiculously successful, innovative, and a HUGE corporate force.  They are supremely profitable and stand to be sued every single day for anti-trust violations.  I have no problem with them nor Microsoft.  In essence they are the same  company, as is ANY and EVERY multi-billion dollar global corporation.  They all make tons of money exploiting everything in their path and we honestly and genuinely love them and give them shit loads of our hard earned.

What the MOTHER Fing F is so great about your garden or any other?

No winks, no smileys needed.

You owe me $20.

I really don't have an issue with UPnP and those who use it. I just find the name/acronym hilarious. It is the irony that gets to me. I just can't stop laughing. Just like you laugh at the "it just works" moniker applied to Apple. I laugh at that too, btw.

All the meta-data/tagging/linking/functionality/classy interface/customization/multi-room etc that you like so much a about JRiver (and/ or other UPnP solutions) is meaningless to me. I just want something that lets me play uncompressed music (without physical CDs in my living room) as simply as possible. For me, that is Apple and iTunes. No other allegiance or preference. (My iPod and iPads (for travel) are part of the appeal, though.) The only thing that is Mutha-Fing great about the iTunes world is that it doesn't do any more than I need or want (and that it is stable and reliable).

Whoa whoa whoa.......  Sorry.  I was hammered last night.  Reading my above post now, it doesn't come across as funny as I thought when I wrote it.

And when people say "I don't want to offend you, but....." you just know that they're about to say something that really, really offends you.
