Reviews on YouTube - another bugbear of mine!
Posted by: Consciousmess on 16 April 2012
Hi all,
Maybe I'm a sensitive guy, but is there anyone out there who can relate to this frustration?
Well, for a start I am always under the schema that a review of anything before one's subjective experience taints interpretation and one cannot suppress the unconscious placebo effect. That aside and with relation to my thread title, I am inclined to suspect the following......
The typical person to watch a YouTube video has already selected themselves into a category that already 'likes' that sort of video e.g. band or film. So any review given is distorted incredibly!!
And furthermore, if I am to download s film on Apple TV straightaway the company presents the average rating polluting my mind --- so my humble opinion and enjoyment of the film has confounding variables niggling away at me.....
So here is my suggestion. If companies insist on displaying 'reviews' they should present the reviews in context i.e. the typical genre the reviewer likes. Then I know whether to ignore the crap or not. Case in point:
I generally like Guy Pearce as an actor and one of his films is all based on issues to do with cannibals. Well, EVERY review of this gave it five stars out of five, so I paid the money rented it and before I finish this sentence I have just realised that I am about to unintentionally contradict my first paragraph! The film was rubbish simply because it was a genre I cannot suspend my rationality over in order to watch.
And that's why I am against bring exposed to reviews!!!
Can anyone relate to my frustrations or is this wasted energy on my part??!
Jon
