n-Stream Album Art?

Posted by: divuk83 on 19 April 2012

I'm running n-Stream on an ipod touch (4th gen) and I can't work out what is making the album art so small and pixely? I think it's nstream as when I use plug player the album art looks much clearer. I can see why n-stream might re-size the art on an older ipod but it looks crap on the more recent ones. If the solution is to buy an ipad I might be able to be open to that idea.....

If it makes any difference I'm using Twonky 6.0.38 on a ReadyNAS Duo v1 and it is set not to transcode anything so I don't think this is the problem?

If anyone has any ideas or similar experience I would be interested to hear.

Cheers

I have exactly the same problem.

I run twonky on a Readynas and have the same issue, nice high res pictures in plug player, low res in n stream. I hadn't really noticed until I got an iPad, but the album covers look terrible on the iPad.

I wonder if it is something to do with the settings within twonky! Although it is odd that plug player show hi res images.

Its better than the Readynas built in upnp server. At some point I'll probably get a different nas and have the Readnas for backups.

As Steve says, Twonky is better than readyDLNA which I think is the only other option on a readynas. In the settings page of Twonky there is an option for what the display options are for each connected device but they are set the same for plug player as they are for nstream. I bet it's even more annoying on an ipad!

I've got Twonky on my QNAP NAS.  Album art very blocky on iphone and iPad (n-Stream) using Twonky.  So I now use Asset on my laptop as my UPNP software.  Solved the problem completely, and I can now sort/search on Composer as well!  So I'm convinced the problem is with Twonky, not n-STream. The only downside is that i have to have my laptop swtiched on.  Sometime soon I'll get around to getting a little PC just to run Asset under Wndows Home Server.

As said, this is nought to do with nStream but the upnp server. Twonky is getting long in the tooth, it appeared back in the early years of when upnp was in its infancy and seems to suffer accordingly. With a modern upnp server such Asset, there is no problem with art, and you can define the resolution for your control point if you need to

Extensive googling on my part suggested it might be Twonky however I was thrown when plug player connecting to twonky didn't do the same thing. I think twonky might be the best I can get with my readynas so I'm not really sure what else I can do. I don't really think it's worth me upgrading my NAS just for this, though anHP microserver is tempting.....

Cheers all

Good news for you and me Steve, after a bit of searching I have found a way to get it working.

Go to the twonky configuration page, and under Advanced Setup click on "Media Receivers" then change the mac/ip entry for your iPod/iPad too "Songbook DS Control Point" front the drop down list (don't forget to press save!). Then clear the image cache on your iPod/iPad from the setup menu in nStream and close down and the restart the app.

If this doesn't work (it didn't for me), change all the devices to Songbook DS Control Points and repeat the process of clearing the image cache and restarting the nstream app.

Hope it works.

Synology latest firmware already solved the cover art size issue, the cover art on the iphone/ipad is clear now.

Hi Dave

I tried what you said. Voila, the artwork becomes so crisp!

Initially I just changed the "Apple iphone" to "Songbook DS Control Point", it did not work. Then I changed the NDX to "Songbook DS Control Point" also, and that was the ticket. I left other media receivers (TV, AV amp, Blu-ray player, etc) untouched.

Thanks a million for sharing this with me and other TwonkyMedia users.

Success!

In the twonky setup, there is a section for media receivers. I had set the ip address of my iPad to plugplayer, and in plugplayerI the album art was fine, but not N stream. I then set my unitiqutes ip address to plugplayer as well, and now get high res album art on from nstream on my iPad. I can only imagine twonky is sending album art to the unitiqute, which passes it to the iPad.

Just installed the latest firmware on my Synology 210j but I'm not really really happy with it. Seems to be a bit better but not clear or crisp?!

Hi Jan,

You need go to the media server, DMA compatible page, click the device list and find your device choose 「Default profile with original cover」
