nStream type MAC application

Posted by: Julian H on 21 April 2012

Hi

If I didn't want to use my iPad to control NDX via nStream, is there an app I can use on my iComputers?

I see something on the appstore called Qute Control for UQ but don't want to take a punt because it is not free [and feedback reviews are variable!]

Cheers, Julian

Hi

The above link goes to another thread on this app. I use it for my Qute.

Have you tried but dismissed using a web browser on your Mac to control the device?  That's certainly an option.

Type in the IP of your ndx into a browser.

Then RTFM.

PG Thanks for the link. I had not seen that. The question is, does it work on NDX?

iGary - I have RTFM but the FM does not have anything about operating the FNDX via web browser [which is not what I asked for anyway]. Typing the IP address into a browser does give a display of various data regarding settings of the FNDX but not operational functionality.

Thanks,

Julian

Julian, Qute Control is pretty good. Works well on my iMac and Air. Is there anything in particular that you would like to know about it? John

Hi John

Do you know if it will work an NDX?

Can I queue music with it?

It should work with an NDX, however I have only tested with my Qute.  The author just reverse engineered the IP commands that N-Stream sends and so you get pretty much the same functionality as N-Stream, only in a desktop app.  As such, no dynamic playlist creation, but you can cue up the next track just as in N-Stream.

I get my Qute back tomorrow after having the 24/192 update and so I will test that Qute Control still works after this and report back.

Indeed it is I who should RTFM as you have an NDX not HDX, sorry

Thanks Garyi

John. I look forward to you reporting back once you have tried the new upgraded UQ.

Hi Julian - QuteControl works perfectly well with my upgraded Qute.

I will post a separate review of the upgrade, but I suspect that it will work just fine for your NDX.

While I recall, the only thing that QuteControl doesn't do that I would like to see added is that it doesn't pick up any re-naming of the inputs.  For example, it calls Digital 2 "Digital 2", despite my re-naming it "Apple TV".

Fairly trivial, but worth mentioning.

Hi

Thanks for coming back to me John re the new board.

I can confirm for all NDX owners that the QuteControl app works a treat on it too!

Good to hear it - how are you finding the app?

Posted on: 28 April 2012 by Julian H

Hi

Its a bit slow, but does what it needs to.

Obviously the volume and mute do not work and like you say, does not pick up the renaimed inputs but hey, thats a minor irritation.

The other thing is, if I leave my iMac on then use my MacBook, I need to shut down the app. Something I don't have to do when controlling via iPad and move to iPhone, using n-Stream. Oh, my word! I am iMad!

Finally, having to double click everything is a bit of a PITA!

Cheers, J

Ahh - There are a few differences then.

Volume control works fine with a Qute and I have no memory needing to double click anything.

Leaving the app running is just the same as leaving n-Stream running - you cannot have two remote apps controlling tthe device simultaneously.
