That's better!

Following my many questions re upnp streaming and macs I came to the conclusion that if you can get it to work well for you, well that's fine , if however as I found , you can't make everything work 100 percent and do not wish / are unable to dig deep into the computing side of things then the answer is ( in my case) a Unitiserve...so thanks to the guys at  Analogue solutions in Peterborough  a Unitiserve is now up and running ripping discs...no issues with set up..it just works...not the cheapest way of going about things but it gives me the solution I was looking for!

No doubt someone will perfect upnp in the future,or Naim will develop the apple side of things .Me I am just happy it's now working...back to the ripping !

  • My experience is broadly similar to Steves.
  • Went from a cd5xs to ndx  for both its sound quality and features but after a few months faffing about with a laptop and db power amp I traded for a cdx2.2.
  • Ultimately though i found the cd player just too much for my ears so went back to ndx - this time with an accompanying unitiserve. Ripped my music collection in less than a week, bought an iPad and haven't looked back since. So much music to enjoy and not enough hours in the day.
  • I have no idea why bullet points have appeared.

It seems that one either loves or hates the CX2.2. I hated it too.

Hi winkyincanada

I wouldn't say I hated the cdx2.2 but there was some kind of artifice, particularly with female singers, that spoiled my enjoyment.

I even tried a 555ps with it for a week which, i was surprised to find, exaggerated both it's strengths and it's weaknesses.

I use a Mac mini with NAS for close to two years now. I absolutely love it. My player is Amarra Mini. The Mac is wired through a good USB/Spdif converter into the nDac. The sound is gorgeous and I'm very satisfied with what I have. I don't stream for now. Not to say I won't try it one of these days. But it is far on my list of try outs.

Steve I have not regretted my UnitiServe purchase one bit.  How are you connecting yours to the rest of your system?  Mine isn't really streaming; I'm using its digital output directly to an nDAC/XPS2 via a DC1 cable.  Super easy and sounds very nice.  At this point I can't justify putting an NDX between the uServe and the nDAC as some have done.  If I didn't own the DAC and XPS2 it'd be a different story.

I concur with the OP. Varied results with asset etc led me to the US. works well and serves my SU and UQwith ease. Can make racket when ripping but so what. I can't tell difference in playback via upnp vs dig.

Connecting between the uniti and unitiserve via true colours optical lead at the moment...trying to resist thetemptation to start messing with cables etc at the moment. ..I do agree the serve can be a little noisy when ripping, but no more so than the mac.
