Shorts

Posted by: Dungassin on 24 April 2012

Was sent out shopping this a.m. by SWMBO.  Instruction "get yourself a new coat and some new shorts"  (yes dear, I said).

Couldn't find one pair of shorts I liked in Burton-On-Trent.  They all seem to be these long shorts these days.  Can't see the point of shorts that come below my knees, and I think they make vertically challenged me look ridiculous!  Guess the purchase will have to wait until we get to Malta for the annual visit to the "out-laws" for me to find some of a sensible length.

Too right Dungassin,  I gave up on getting sensible shorts in UK years ago

Calf length baggies that make you look like a street rapper or union flag coloured better suited to brits on voting competitions in Costa Paket  ...........  not for a respectable 60+ y.o. like me.

I get mine on my 2x annual trips to SA, proper length, easy on the ballroom & real cotton that doesn't smell like a hyena's crotch after 1 day in the bush.

Seriously,  I have tried some UK www outlets,  but never found a short that fits me right despite the same short fit others well - hmmm - thinks me might need to look at the girth (again)

But as a tip try the www options - money back if not happy etc - u never know

Nah!  I like them an inch or 2 longer, with pockets and the appropriate (closable) anterior opening for "elimination".

Well, I'm >60 too, but as for respectable ...

The purchase was made necessary because I've lost >4 stone in the last year!  (still not thin, but getting there).  Losing weight has costs.

I'm the same as you DG, the so called "shorts" on sale are at best "quite longs"  shrunken long trousers.

M&S used to do very good shorts waist to leg end approx 14" now the best is 18", one could at least have them taken up.

I fail to see why you would want to just expose 3" of leg with modern fashion of all year "longs".

Try the outdoor clothing shops DG. They seem to have a fair range of normal shorts and they're mostly quite smart as well as being very practical.

You could always try the Conservative Party Handbook, aka the Boden catalogue.

I just bought 2 pair of Hurley walk-shorts (Hurley is a surf goods brand).

Excellent cut and finish.

Hurley , dreadful website, can't find any reference to walk shorts.

Strangely enough I was in our local Millets yesterday (checking out their coats on SWMBO's instructions), and it never occurred to me to look at their shorts!  I'll have a look next time I'm in town.

Another solution is to buy pants and get the legs cut to desired length.

That was suggested by SWMBO, but I pointed out that a lot of these new long shorts have the pockets rather low down the legs.  As I said, I don't think I'll have any problem finding something suitable in Malta, whence SWMBO hails.

Two clicks at Hurley.com and I found a huge range of walk shorts -

Home Page > Shop > Walkshorts

Plenty of old school styles there too.

Thankyou James , silly me thinking the Hurley  website searched on the web would be the right one?

Indeed Hurley.com does show these shorts.
