Goodbye

Posted by: EJS on 26 April 2012

Only a couple of weeks ago, I listened to an audio setup that has made me seriously reconsider my audio priorities. George is right, life is short, and earlier this week I decided to take the plunge and traded in my entire Naim setup. It's now two days later, and the new system has arrived - unexpectedly fast, weeks ahead of plan (well, the new plan, as I never planned this move).

So - I guess this is goodbye to all you good people on the Naim forum. Last disc before the system is going to be packed up is this stunning performance of the Grieg and Schumann concertos. It was my first disc of these concertos and remains a favorite.

If they'll allow me, I'll come and visit once in a while, there's no forum like this one and I enjoyed bothering you with classical music and opera in particular.

Cheers,

Erik

In response to the kit-related questions: here it is, the Accuphase DP400 + E460, fully set up on the QS. Nothing fancy on the back yet, I had some old Siltech cables lying around.

As to how it sounds compared to the Naim, early days. Balanced, glossy, sophisticated, total control come to mind - a synthesis of tubes and transistors although this particular amp is a transistor, Class A/B amp. This sounds boring, doesn't it? That's just my prose, because the music isn't

I can also recommend Anna Vinnitskaya, but do also have a listen to Jean-Efflam Bavouzet on Chandos.

re: Vinnitskaya

Really!
My gut tells me she's too young to pull it off but maybe she will be an exception.

Thanks for Bavouzet reco, Aleg.

EJ,

Are those Accu current or past models?

Like Naim, one can't tell since they don't change the face plates that often.

I really dig Pascal Rogé with Charles Dutoit/Montreal Symphony. And the slow movement is one of my all time favorite pieces of music ... sublime.

Erik,

"I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello"

The Beatles

......the words of the Fab Four on this very subject (from 40 years ago - what prescience from them!!), and other forum members above...... all say stay.

You make sterling contributions to the Music Forum - remember that glorious 'Chailly Beethoven' thread, as just one example.

Keep it coming.

Cheers
