I heard about this on the recent Whole Hog Podcast about distinctive and new women in American Country music.   Surely you get Garden and Gun magazine?   Their Whole Hog podcast is very good if you love or want to learn about the South.

Ms. Giddens is black and female, which almost never happens in Country.   Look for the Carolina Chocolate Drops, too, where she is the female lead vocalist.   Check it out on Spotify before you commit.   This is the playlist from the Whole Hog podcast, too.   These curated playlists are my favorite thing about Spotify.

She swings from Odetta to Dolly Parton, to a female Harry Belafonte sound.

Such a wide range of styles, trained as an opera singer, a modern day protest singer. Some of the tracks feature two bass players, so a test of your system to identify both. If you like this, then the latest album is different, a bit political.
