My YLT count remains at 2. I am being cautious - it's a good time of year for new music, many bases to cover. This week I had an urge to replace my HMHB vinyl, so that process also began.

Electro Pura will be on an order soon. I also saw a bizarre looking collaboration between YLT and Jad Fair. Any idea what that was all about?

I had a scary car moment today when my commuting cd of choice for today (New Day Rising) was eaten by the CDP in the car. A screwdriver and a pair of tweezers liberated Mr Mould without any damage to the CDP or to the CD.

picked up a copy of the Joy Zipper cd today - 2nd hand!! quite lovely.

re: YLT 2 recommendations:
1) Fakebook: more like Jonathan Richman that YLT but one of the loveliest records ever - cover versions of all sorts of obscure songs, a Kinks song,a Flamin Groovies and a couple of YLTs own. Wonderfully uplifting stuff.
2) The Sound of the Sound of Science: only available via their website - very ambient and ethereal: all instrumental .

Any views on these Ludwig?

Well, I don't own either one. TSoTSoS has always been elusive (ah ha- website only!) and Fakebook has hidden on my to-do list for years. Your comments are noted, and Fakebook especially has now moved up my list. There are no more excuses.

PS- Alex G, have you read these comments by Mr. Burrell? You know you want to buy these albums immediately. Re: the Jad Fair album, a few comments from Amazon reviewers: "jad fair's cutesy contrivances are so utterly unclever and outright annoying that they make this unlistenable", "An exercise in weirdness, but little more than that", "the novelty of the funny titles wears off fast and Jad's vocals are just plain annoying most of the time".

Fakebook has been ordered. I am intrigued by the negativity of the reaction to the Jad Fair album - the Jad Fair/Teenage Fanclub collab. I have still gets a pretty good reception from my internal critic each time it comes out.

Avoid "Dead Letters" by The Rasmus. It's dismal.

Robert Johnson sings Eric Clap... sorry, King of the Delta Blues Singers - £4.99 in hmv sale!
Stereolab Dots and Loops - been meaning to get round to this for ages
Bill Frisell, The Intercontinentals - a great"world music"/jazz/country fusion. Not usually my sort of thing but read about it, had a listen in Borders and took it home keeping the receipt handy. It is quite lovely, intricate, haunting music although I also worry that I'm going a bit coffee table when I put world music on. I've never gone for it wholesale - got some Farke Toure, some cuban stuff, Fela Kuti, but enjoy things like Arto Lindsay more ( or Zorn, of course)where its mixed in with some beats and noise. Is there anything else I should look out??

I dunno, you spend two or more years banging on about something...

The first album "Are You Shpongled?" is more energetic than Inexpressible, and in my opinion a bit more fun.

The Remix album is a bit of a disappointment really.

That's it for Shpongle, but Simon Posford, who is most of Shpongle (the other bit being Raja Ram of old hippie group Quintessence fame), has done lots of things with other people under other names of which these are some:

Hallucinogen - probably not your cup of tea (it's not mine really) as it's more like proper psy-trance music

Dub Trees - A joint venture with Youth (ex Killing Joke) though much more Youth than Posford. This is excellent, modern electronic dub.

Celtic Cross - (with Youth again) Probably the nearest in feel to Inexpressible - more acoustic guitar and violin in the mix

Younger Brother - Like Shpongle but with a harder edge.

And then there're "friends of Posford" such as OTT who is utterly dubtastic.
