Fiona Apple - "Extraordinary Machine" Can't put my finger on what I like about this, but I do ... I am drawn to playing it frequently, so that is good. It is mysterious somehow. A local critic describes FA thusly: "Musically, her distinctive sound suggests a kid whose show-tune roots got twisted by adolescent angst, singer-songwriter confessionalism and rock 'n' roll aggression". I guess I would agree.
Speaking of angst ...
Alanis Morissette - "The Collection"
I like Alanis - I like this. Bits and pieces, some not readily available previously.

Ooh, what's on the extra cd? I got the original ages ago and it's one of my fave electronica albums (the follow-up is good too)...
Edit: after a check on boomkat I assume that this is what you got? Bargain if it was!
My latest purchase is the new Shriekback album 'Cormorant', which is superb - real return to form after the disappointing 'Naked Apes and Pondlife' (haven't got 'Having a Moment' yet...)

Hi Lee,
I only just found out about Ulrich by chance as I was flicking thru some old FHM's in the office and it was on the cool tunes selection, had a listen to samples on website and was hooked.
2nd CD on import has some previously unreleased tracks and is also a good listen, I have strangely isolated place(new import version too!) on my wish list on amazon, will buy soon!
In the meantime if you want to buy the new import version then check out Amazon in the used and new marketplace HERE
Regards,
John

I enjoy that cd - a gift from a friend. Very good songwriter, decent vocals and nice arrngemnts.
New from amazon this week:
Dave Matthews Band "Weekend On The Rocks" (2-cd, 1-dvd) - More excellent live DMB, this time from a Red Rocks Colorado stay in September 9-12, 2005. Includes live versions of many of the "Stand Up" tracks plus a very good cover of the Zombies classic "Time Of The Season" and DMB vault songs.
Jackson Browne "Solo Acoustic Vol. 1" (1 cd) -
Truly excellent in every way - thanks to so many on this forum who recommended this - I am in your debt.
Sarah McLachlan "Live Acoustic" (cd-ep) - Just Sarah on acoustic guitar or piano and vocals. Nice to have these versions in my collection of SM.
Ray LaMontagne "Live From Bonnaroo 2005" (cd-ep) - Ray on acoustic and vocals, accompanied by upright bass and drums. Ray is so new to the art he has a ways to go on his live presentation but these versions of some of his "Trouble" songs and a wonderful new song titled "Empty" are very nice to hear. If you are a fan of this new songwriter, worth owning for Empty alone.
Stephen Ashbrook "Live At Long Wongs" (2-cd) - A terrific singer/songwriter who currently resides in Portland - this set catches him solo on acoustic, harmonica and vocals from his old home-base of Tempe Arizona. Kind of a Springsteen/Dylan/Mayer potpourri sound - I always enjoy hearing him.
Good listenin'

Hi John - If you like US then I reckon you'd like much of the Morr Music labels output. Try 'Putting the Morr Back in Morrisey' as a good introduction. Obviously I may be teaching granny to suck eggs here so feel free to ignore me!
